Help Replace desire hd volume key???

Well I'm just trying to get it done by myself as I've already bought the key and tools... I guess I just open the back up

It was late last night when I saw this thread and I thought I'd answered it... sorry... I will find a link on how to take it to pieces (you only need to watch the first 2-2.5 mins of it (not all 9.5 mins).

Aah, but I'm trying to replace the external volume key / rocker...

Yeah - if you watch the video from the beginning (well... not the beginning, as it starts by showing you what you need to do it) until 2 mins 25 secs - I think this is where you actually start "Remove the Agency label from the device... then @ 2 mins 31 secs... "remove the volume key from the housing carefully" - this is the step you need to do.

Ok... you may not have to do the steps before, but I don't know.

Aaaaahhh... sorry - I didn't look too closely at the video and I had only watched the video up to that point!

Have you watched the whole thing to see if it is removed later?

Sorry - didn't have any luck finding anything last night!

I haven't ever had to contact HTC myself, but I would have thought a good place to start would be to actually speak to your carrier - they will either put you in touch with HTC or will be able to sort it for you themselves!

Is there not a email?? The phone is not really mine, and don't wanna tell the owner what I've done ; you see in a youte :-) reckon I can buy a new back bezel???
Also will someone like carphone warehouse open up my phone for me???

To be honest, I would be surprised if Carphone Warehouse would do anything like that for you... I think they are more sales and then would send away to a dedicated repair centre for anything.

If you come clean about how it happened to the person who's phone it is, I'm sure they'd be fine!

thanks . But i'd rather go on and fix it myself... shame about CPW not doing that then , but mabye one of those like cornershop phone fixing things..... like XT9 in carlton????

They might do it, but you'd have to go in and ask though.

As above though, if it's not yours, have you thought about just owning up and letting the owner claim via warranty?

Say you fix it yourself, then the warranty seals have been broken because you/a non HTC repair shop has opened it up. If, in future the owner has to return it to HTC for repair and HTC state the warranty is void because it's already been opened, they might end up with a large repair bill.

but theres only one void seal to break , and im pretty sure i can cut that off with a scalpel ( see the post of xda :)

ill see what i can doo.....otherwise ill send it in to htc after a root and a nan thing backup a thing...

Why not see if HTC will fix it for you and then look @ rooting?

HTC may only fix it for you if you can prove that you are the one who bought it though... but not if it's your friends!
