Then you can add any widget to the lockscreen - just like you would on your normal homescreen. There are even clock and battery widgets included with WidgetLocker.
Using most standard sliders in WidgetLocker, if you use the "Resize" feature (press and hold the center of the slider to bring up to options menu) and stretch the slider to be "thin" and "tall", it will slide vertically instead of horizontally. You may have to play around with it to get it to slide correctly (the left or right slider changes to up or down specifically, but I can't remember which).
