replace screen and having trouble with the screw.

normally i would suggest using a screw extractor but they dont make em that small i dont think, not sure but i think it may be time to admit defeat and get a new handset or send it back to htc

Try putting something thin like some cling film or tissue paper on the end of your screwdriver, it might allow you to get purchase on the screw head. Be very gentle when turning the driver.

I do this with tape on normal-sized Allen bolts and it works maybe half the time -- better than never, really.

What I would try in this situation is use a small Torx driver that will just fit into the stripped out screw head. It needs to be a quality one that is made with decent hardened steel. If necessary file the end so that it is completely flat (normally they are slightly rounded). This should give you nice sharp points on the 'teeth' of the bit.
Then you need to apply very firm downward pressure into the screw head, maybe even give it a gentle tap with a hammer if you're feeling brave enough. This should embed the torx bit into the screw head, now just keep the pressure on and the driver vertical and gently turn.

At the cost of ruining a screwdriver (and having to buy another), try a drop of superglue on the knackered screw and glue the screwdriver to it. You should be able to remove the screw with that.

Cant hurt to try putting a thin rubberband between the screw and the bit, worked for me when i was disassembling a netbook with a stripped screw.

Araldite?

The instant stuff goes off in a minute or so (to the point where it can be propped and left for an hour). And it's not nearly as brittle as superglue.
