replace sd card

I'm looking to swap out the existing 2 GB card for something larger. My plan was to connect my phone to my laptop via USB and copy all the files to a temp folder on the laptop. Then copy those files to the new card(using SD adapter in the SD reader) and then swap out the cards in the phone. Is it that simple? Do I need to format the new card before copying the files? Now that I'm rooted does that have any affect on this?

That's exactly what I did, but you may want to make sure that hidden files and folders are visible when you make the copy from your old SD card. There are quite a few hidden files on the SD card. I don't think that they're vitally important for operation, but, just for the sake of completeness...

(BTW, my Eris came with an 8 GB SD card. Yours did not?)

No, mine is 2 GB. I bought it used off Ebay and I'm guessing the original owner swapped out the bigger card before they sold it. It was advertised as 2 GB, but I didn't think anything of it at the time.

Thanks for the info.
