Root Replacement Droid Bricked upon arrival!!!

So my buddy had been having terrible issues w/ his OG Droid and verizon sent him a replacement... came in yesterday and since he is not the most tech savy he wanted me to help him get it going..... put the battery in a power up right? Wrong!! took me straight to the bootloader screen.....code corrupt and all.... called verizon and spoke w/ motorola even to see if they would even hint at helping me use RSD lite....no go....so since I was a OG droid owner and am very comfy w/ root and installing roms and all the goodness I was like hey man let me see if I can get it going.... The point of this post is to say thanks for all the knowledge and great post/videos on this site! I spent alot of time before I rooted my OG droid on here watching videos and reading and b/c of that I am very comfy tinkering w/ these phones ( i now have a rooted DX)...... I flashed FR22D usiing RSD-simple, simple, simple..... it flashed, booted his phone...and I ran the 2 updates up to FR83D....then rooted it using the one click root....and it's up and running fine! bout 45 mins for whole process... Thanks again to the forums for the knowledge! Don't think there is any possible way to brick these droids- they are some tough tough phones! Great day!

It's these kinds of posts that this site is the number one stop for all things Android. Thanks for helping out your buddy move from a completely useless phone to a very nice rooted FroYo-based DROID.

Oh. But. Yes. Good job. The A855 is just about non-brickable! But I do have one little thing I'd like to add.

Friends don't let friends fix/root/hack their friend's phones ;).

Why? Because, now you are going to be bugged every single time the phone gets wonky from lack of knowledge as to what's been done, lol.

I have been offered $$$ to root phones, but I just link them to various places so that the owner can read and do for themself.

true that, i rooted my buddies inc for him. flashed a rom, themed it, flashed a new baseband.. the works. i walked him through EVERY step i did, but he STILL keeps bugging me everytime he needs ANYTHING!

[OT]I had a stranger with a droid come to my work just when Froyo was first leaked. I saw he had an A855 so we started talking Droid, of course, and I showed off Froyo on mine but he was not rooted. He immediately asked me to come over and root his phone and put froyo on it for him. He was willing to even pay me any price I asked. I did get his number.

But two-three things made me not do it. First was "Friends don't let friends hack their friend's phones." (because you'll never hear the end of it, nor the end of "WTF HELP!") Third was Froyo was still too new in alot of ways at that time.

What was the second? It's a hobby, nuff said. Freely learned, freely given. I did text him a link, never heard back.[/OT]
