Replacement - question about root and bootloader

Well it happened, I have a crack on my screen.

It first started off as what I thought was a scratch, which wasn't bad when the screen was on. However in the last week, a crack going from the top left side to the top of the phone screen has appeared running next to that scratch.

I'm debating on using my insurance to get a replacement. I know its about $90. This crack is driving me insane, its no longer a pretty phone :(

My question is about getting a replacement phone. I'm currently rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. Will I need to unroot and re-lock the bootloader before I take it to Verizon asking for a replacement? Not sure how this all works.

It appears to me tht if you choose to go through your insurance you do not go through Verizon. You deal directly with the insurance company. I did this several years back. The other thing I have picked up on by others is that when you submit your claim you would want to tell them that your phone was lost so that you do not have to ship it back to them. This way you can keep your old phone and use it as a wifi unit and mp3 player. Not sure if others would agree, but it seems to make sense to me that this would be the best use of handling your claim since you are paying $90 for a replacement.

Best idea to completely wipe your phone. Unroot and lock the bootloader. Safest way.

Woah...never thought of that. Hmm wondering if I could get away with that. Anybody else have experience with this?
