replacing htc desire.

IMO, the Desire is the perfect weight, since if my handset is in my pocket, I want to feel it's there, otherwise I just keep checking every 10 minutes being the paranoid I am. :p

I agree with SU on this, I don't like the way the case of the device is made. It doesn't say "high-end" to me, like the Sensation does.
As you said it though, to each to his own :D

It's a very old fashioned view to perceive weight as an indicator of quality, particularly for electronic devices.

Indeed. Good job I didn't say that then ;)
And I would take issue with calling the case I mentioned ugly ... I think the S2 in that case (particularly the dark grey one) not only looks great but rather unique
personal choice I guess ;)

Don't take it personally. I just think all cases make phones uglier and bulkier than intended. If its any consolation, for what its worth, I'm not sure anything could make the s2 any uglier than it is. It's the second ugliest high end device on the market imho

Which is why it broke my heart to stick my beautiful new Desire into an ugly black clunky Otterbox. But I know myself well enough to know that if I didn't do that, I would have killed my beautiful new Desire in fairly short order. (My flip feature phone exploded into bits on tile floors and concrete driveways on a regular basis. Fortunately, it was a simple matter of reassembling the case and battery. I doubt the Desire would have stood up as well to my abuse.) And my husband dropped his Desire screen-down on our concrete driveway from a four-foot height two days after getting it. The Otterbox saved his for sure.

I do take it out of the Otterbox every now and then to lovingly dust it off and admire it's beauty... then back in the ugly clunky scratched dented chippped Otterbox it goes!

I dropped mine onto concrete / tarmac etc etc and did receive some dents in the metal casing and some scratches.

I bought a case, which made it look ok and added a bit of protection. I took it out a couple of months later. It just feels better. I drop it almost daily, although usually from teh arm of the sofa onto a wooden floor.

Agreed about all cases. The Barely There case I use on my Desire is the best of a bad lot. Always smile when I remove the case but usually put it back on shortly after. These toys are just too expensive to replace.

I've just ordered a Galaxy s2 since my Desire was stolen- waiting on its arrival sometime this week. It has beastly specifications and is consistently given review scores between 8 and 9 out of 10.

I was going to get a HTC Sensation but I couldn't find it for under

I think for some phones, cases can look good, for example BlackBerry or the 4s.
The desire though looks too pretty to put in a case.
I used to have a rubber case and a screen protector but soon took it off.

And how has your phone faired since you took off the case and screen protector? My phone has never been without one or the other. It's still pristine :D
The only issue is my camera lens cover. I know I know. Just pop it out, right (ooh-er!) but it just sounds.. Wrong to me.

Nothing wrong with the screen what so ever.
The case has slight marks where I've dropped it a few times but nothing major.

I must admit I've got 3 cases stuck back in my desk as I use my Desire 'naked' as such now.....dropped it god knows how many times now and its only got one tiny little mark on the bezel itself...how I have no idea as theres no other marks round it and its like dead centre of the bezel under the bottom edge of the screen lol

the only slight I have now is that I have to go a little careful more only because I'm using an extended battery with the bulbous back on it..and if I drop it with that on...9 times out of 10 it comes off and the battery falls lol

I find it stagering tha HTC have used some obviously resiliant material for the screen and cheap shoddy plastic for the camera lens cover which scratches with ease..
Oh well, I've become quite partial to my case and screen protectors. Can't see myself using it without now.
