Report your 2.1 OTA error /bugs/complaints here.

I finally did a factory reset and that seemed to clear up my issues. A couple people mentioned just doing a factory reset right after the upgrade whether you need it or not. Words of wisdom imo...

after updating, it syncs my facebook contacts with my google contacts. which actually was good, because now i have some of my contacts i lost when i originally bought the Eris. however, now when is sync my google contacts it says about 400 times, "cannot find contact"

After the 2.1 OTA update from 1.5 I have experienced the dreaded silent bug (once). After I pulled the battery it worked fine.
It seems it started after I changed from vibrate to souend with the rocker.

I have only a few pps: AK Notes, google skymap and swype.

VERY ANNOYING.

Any fix?
Peter

Apologies if this has already been covered...
But how many with the silent call in 2.1 issue are using Google Voice? VZW support is suggesting this _might_ be an issue, but I'd like a little more data.

Hopefully this will help you...

This is the latest thread that I've found (over at XDA) in which a user successfully replicates the silent call bug:

Dude I have tried everything and here is what I found: I did a factory wipe and re-logged in. Everything is fine until you play any music file other than the default ringtones, i.e. music widget or app. After that, no volume whatsoever. Volume is on high, phone is not on silent. I left it alone all night after a reboot and volume still works fine. Added HTC music widget to home screen and poof! After playing and pausing one track, I let the phone go to sleep, called it with my phone and again no sound. Phone is still not in silent mode. No sound will play AT ALL. WTF.

seems like the OTA has lots more bugs then v3...

Um, I think the problem is that the OTA has rolled out to a lot more people that have marginal troubleshooting skills. That's not a condemnation, just a fact after you see the resolutions to their intial posts.

Crazy bug, anyone else?

1. When writing a text in text prediction mode, if i try to spell a word with 4 then 3 (such as he, id, i'd,...) it shows them as options yet it wont allow it to be placed in the text box nor can i get out of the process unless i act as if i want to try to add a new word and then i get this message "Sorry - the application touch input (process.com.htc.android.htcime) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" with a force close and then i cant finish the text at all. Then, any text i try to write from that point on is all in caps yet the arrow that normally shows caps is regular. The only (so far that i figured out) to fix this is to then make the arrow in caps mode and change it back to not caps. Crazy huh? Am i the only one with this bug? Any fix?

2. Sound disappears for the ringer yet it shows that its on. Only way thus far i have solved this is to reboot. Anyone have this?

3. Last thing and not sure if this worked lately with 1.5 cuz its been a while since i used it but with the i music app, when i try to download a song it says "error:client request couldnt be parsed" or "error:insufficient storage space." So with that said, what is the best app to get songs and then make them ringers?

My Contact list is now sorted by number instead of name. I have all my contacts after the update, Everything but my facebook contacts are all listed by # and not name. Anyone have this problem and know how to fix it?

There's actually a way to clear the phone's /cache directory entirely without doing a hard reset. It might be worthwhile for someone to try doing this before resorting to the hard reset. When you follow the sequence that's used to install the update.zip, instead of choosing "flash update from update.zip" from the recovery menu, you have the options "clear cache" or "factory reset." Someone should try doing the "clear cache" there to see if it helps.

I'm confused on this one... if we happened to upgrade the phone by installing v3 leak, doesn't that totally wipe out everything on the phone? Giving it a "clean slate"? Does the cache survive a full install?

It obviously makes sense with an OTA update, but I don't see how this makes sense with the v3 leak.

I'm willing to maybe try this method, but only when I understand it. :p

In addition to the Weather App force closing, I get the following error message when I try to play Music or look at Photos:
Sorry! The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

These things all worked fine in 1.5!

Has anyone had this issue? Any ideas of how to correct?

Aside from the Facebook contact issue the other problem I'm having is that regardless of whether I have an individual ringtone assigned to one of my contacts it still plays my default ringtone for everyone. I've tried deleting and manually re-entering those contacts and reassigning the ringtones as well... even assigning them using different apps and still the problem persists. Is anyone else having this problem and have you found a solution? Uber frustrated.

I'm having the same problem with ringtones - it plays the default ringtone no matter what I do. It will show the custom ringtone on the contact card, but when that person calls, the default ringtone goes off.

Or how about this (and I had this problem on 1.5, as well): the phone will be sitting right in front of me, on my desk at work. A notification goes off that I have a message. But the phone never rang.

So far, everything seems to be working well but my contacts have been syncing continuously since last night! Is that normal or should I do a factory reset? Would that even help? I have about 900 Google contacts to sync. Do I just need to be patient and let it keep doing its thing for who knows how long?

I tried a battery pull and it didn't seem to help. Maybe Google is backlogged with all the simultaneous synchronizing?

My biggest complaint is that the Photo Albums have all disappeared (except the default ones). I tried putting them all back to where they were before but it all failed. Tried putting them in multiple other folders as well, as well as clearing the cache and replacing the folders. No good.

Anyone else have this issue?

It took 20 hours to sync all my contacts (900)! It just barely finished!

Now that's it's finally done syncing, I'm missing at least one Google contact that shows up online but doesn't show up one my phone, no matter how many times I force it to re-sync. There may be more than that for all I know.

How do I go about getting the missed straggler(s)? Do I need to resort to a factory reset or is there a better way?

My wife got hit with the "silent call" bug tonight. She's really pissed to considering she wouldn't let me install any of the leaks on her phone because of the silent bug issues I was facing. I had my phone switched out, but I'm thinking it's only a matter of time before it hits me again. VZW is really in for it if this bug continues after multiple exchanges....I've had situations with them before like this, and I'll end up walking away with 2 Incredibles.

I got my update this morning, so far everything seems ok, except the lock button doesnt lock the phone anymore. It unlocks fine. Anyone seen this one yet?

Dont know if this has been answered yet but, your problem might be in the spare parts app, the end button behavior. You have to set it back to default which is go into sleep. That part of the app is 1.5 only and it says it, let me know if this helps.

Not that exact same issue, though I thought I did at first. I've noticed that whenever I copy any new information from my PC to the media folders on the SD card (DCIM, Movies, Pictures, and so on) that the phone tries to re-index it all over again, and it takes FOREVER.

After I tried to sync a few hundred some mp3's to the card, it hung up for well over 1/2 an hour after I pressed "Photos". It did finally come up, though, but it was a pain. Yet another bug that's brand new to the "official" 2.1 that I never had on the leaks. *sigh*

I went from 1.5 to 2.1 via OTA and have noticed some very annoying issues.

1. Battery life is way down, use to last 2-3 days on a charge, now it only lasts 13 hours. I have made sure WiFi is off and auto-sync is disabled for my accounts. 7 SMS (sent/received) and 1 MT voice call (45 secs) during the day. I can slide through all 7 screens and the battery will drop 1-2% with the only "running services" being "Touch Input".

2010-05-18 Update: The battery dropped 20% overnight (7 hours) while sitting on my night stand. Now the "running services" are "Google - GTalkService", "Touch Input", and "Calender - ObexService".

2. Unable to make voice calls any longer. Never get to the hear the rings, after 30 secs the call attempt just ends. But phone will receive an incoming call in the same location as attempting to make a voice call.

3. When trying to dial a number it takes 3-4 seconds before the number that is pressed to be displayed. Like it is trying to search a very large phone book. I supposedly have 185 contacts.

4. Speed dial locations do not save

5. "Sent Message Successfully" notifications after each sent SMS.

2010-05-18 Update: It seems that SMS notifications (sent and failure) are new with 2.1. See http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/80279-message-sent-successfully.html.

6. Timing issue with the display lighting up and audio notification with incoming calls and SMS.

I have not had a chance to read through the thread yet, just wanted to get the issue I am seeing down before I forget them. I will read through the thread tomorrow and see what suggestions have been posted.

the major problem that i've been having is that facebook is overriding my contacts as far as how they are listed in my address book/contacts/people, whatever you want to call it.

i went in and manually unsync'd every name that was connected to a FB account so that the name that i typed in for that contact would appear (like nicknames/shortened versions of their name/etc) because i'm just so used to calling certain people by their nicknames over the past 10 years or so. and some of my contacts have long hyphened last names that i dont care to have in my phonebook. anyways, after i unsync'd them and resync'd them to FB, the name that i originally entered them under would stay up along w/ having their FB profile picture with it.

until i turned off my phone.... about half of the contacts reverted back to the facebook profile name... i had to go in, unsync and resync all over again. also too, some of the profile pictures would go missing...

anyone else having issues once they turn off the device and turn it back on?

Would a factory reset even make a difference? Forcing it to re-sync doesn't do the trick. :(

I'm having some problems myself. Whenever I go to compose an SMS message, I used to type in the persons name (ex. Anna) and select it from the drop down list, but now it only shows email addresses. No Phone numbers. SO everytime I need to text someone, I have to type in their number manually or go to people , find them, then hit send text message. It's really very annoying. I don't want to unsync my contacts from facebook because thats where it got the email addresses from, I just want to text phone numbers, not emails. I searched through options/settings and found no resolution. Any ideas?
