Report your 2.1 OTA error /bugs/complaints here.

I went from 1.5 to 2.1 via OTA and have noticed some very annoying issues.

1. Battery life is way down, use to last 2-3 days on a charge, now it only lasts 13 hours. I have made sure WiFi is off and auto-sync is disabled for my accounts. 7 SMS (sent/received) and 1 MT voice call (45 secs) during the day. I can slide through all 7 screens and the battery will drop 1-2% with the only "running services" being "Touch Input".

2. Unable to make voice calls any longer. Never get to the hear the rings, after 30 secs the call attempt just ends. But phone will receive an incoming call in the same location as attempting to make a voice call.

3. When trying to dial a number it takes 3-4 seconds before the number that is pressed to be displayed. Like it is trying to search a very large phone book. I supposed have 185 contacts.

4. Speed dial locations do not save

5. "Sent Message Successfully" notifications after each sent SMS.

6. Timing issue with the display lighting up and audio notification with incoming calls and SMS.

I have not had a chance to read through the thread yet, just wanted to get the issue I am seeing down before I forget them. I will read through the thread tomorrow and see what suggestions have been posted.

I have the same stupid speed dial problem. i can not set any of my speed dial numbers. its annoying cuz i have to look for the person every time i need to make a phone call now.

My Contact list is now sorted by number instead of name. I have all my contacts after the update, Everything but my facebook contacts are all listed by # and not name. Anyone have this problem and know how to fix it?

Im having the same problem. Plus, the ones that have the correct name will not show the name on incoming calls, just shows the number. I also started having ghost calls tonight (had 8 ghost calls in a row). Battery pull did correct the ghost calling for now. Mine has also suddenly turned itself off and restarted twice without me even touching it. I am far from a phone tech/guru...........i just want a damn phone that works without me having to jack with this and that. My phone had zero problems before the update.

The stock weather app/widget is not working =/

Also, I just noticed that I'm not able to take pictures during a call anymore and I used to be able to before the update.. is anyone else having this problem? It's not a big deal, I'm just curious.. thanks..

when you receive a text or mms the notification won't go away if you go into Messages and look at the text thread. It seems like you have to either clear the notification in the notification bar or click the notification in the notification to go away.

Not a big deal, just slightly annoying. Oh and like everyone else, the battery life is significantly worse and my awake time is a lot worse as well =/

anyone having an issue with the trackball or screens going to the left after its on the charger ?? i am now on my 3rd phone and it seems to happen on leak v3 and ota so im lost here didnt have this issue before leak 3 or ota so im wondering if its an issue with the update or if i just have terrible luck and get 2 phones with the same issue

Observations:

The Good:

  • Faster in general including browsing
  • Battery life seems better (I'm on it for over an hour right now and still at 99%)
  • Navigator/Maps awesome
  • New Market interface kinda cool
  • Better calculator
  • No delay with dialing
  • Camera slide out control cool and zoom cool
  • Desk clock with weather, very cool
  • Everything seemed to sync automatically (Google contacts/calendars) and all previous apps
  • Mail function (AOL) works flawlessly

The Bad:

  • Speed dial not working (but I never used this, just checked it because of the complaints here)
  • Screen seems somewhat washed out compared to before the update (photo on home screen definitely not as colorful as before)
  • Weather widget will not work, always force closes and HTC logo comes on and then home screen comes back; I really liked that widget! Using WeatherWidgets now.
  • Serious flaw with calendar program; force closes when you try to go to a specific day; doesn't matter to me though because I use Calendar Pad and CalWidget, both of which are far better than the original program
  • My husband has the same phone and got his update 3 days before me (even though he got his phone a month after I did); in any case, he uses the Favorites widget, but it won't work, each time you add someone, the previous person disappears
  • My bluetooth won't work with my car anymore. However, I couldn't get it to work the first time and the dealership got it to work (no contacts, but at least the bluetooth dialing, etc.) I have to bring it back to the dealer to see if he can get it working again

And while I'm writing... my favorite apps:

Calendar Pad
CalWidget
Opera Mini is pretty cool, although I go back and forth between the regular browser which is pretty fast now
PhoneMyPC (couldn't live without this one!)
PicSay
ShapeWriter Keyboard (this is the best thing since sliced bread!!!!)
TweetCaster (LOVE THIS!)

Overall, I am thrilled with the update and I LOVE this phone, it often replaces my laptop when I go places.

Got the 2.1 OTA yesterday.

I have two mail icons on 2 different screens. 2.1 can't keep them straight.... One was a pop3 account (Verizon) and the other Exchange. I have to do to more and select the "other account". Maybe I need to delete the accouts and set them up again?

You Tube keeps prompting me for password and secret code.... did everything I was supposed to but no dice.

other than that so far....impressed

I am having big time signal issues. At home before i had 3 bar to full bars now I have one bar. highway driving on a road I always had full coverage I now only have 2 bars. Anyone having that issues?

No matter how many times I force sync, my FB contacts won't update past the letter F. If I have contacts who's names start with letters later in the alphabet, when I try to link them it says no matches found. I've already done the factory reset - twice actually - to fix issues with missing widgets and force closing apps, and that didn't fix it. Everything else about 2.1 is working great now, but for someone as socially wired as I am, this is a problem. Anyone have a fix for this?

That sounds awfully suspicious. Frisco!!!

Now that's it's finally done syncing, I'm missing at least one Google contact that shows up online but doesn't show up one my phone, no matter how many times I force it to re-sync. There may be more than that for all I know.

How do I go about getting the missed straggler(s)? Do I need to resort to a factory reset or is there a better way?

I decided to bite the bullet and do a full factory reset. It synced really quickly (not 20 hours like it did right after the OTA!) and all of my contacts (as far as I can tell) are there this time!

There's one for the records where a sync problem was solved by a hard reset.

Why the hell would Android 2.1 condense all the people with the same name in my phone into ONE contact? This is the dumbest ****ing thing I have ever seen and is causing me a great headache.

All the Jimmy's, James' and Jim's are now ONE contact. All the Josh's, Joshua's are now ONE contact. SO f***ing ******ed.

Go into the contact and remove the link at the upper right hand corner. It sound like something on your phone is suggesting that they should be linked together.

The problem is, with the Josh's, where I had 6 separate contacts I now have 1 contact. So I have to write down everyone's individual numbers, call them back to make sure who is who, then put them back in my phone and reassign Facebook profiles. Android just dumped them all into one contact. Hitting the Link button just brings me to which Facebook accounts to unlink. Once I do that, whomever else I unlinked is gone from my phone.

Oh and not to mention, everyone that I had custom photos for on their contacts, those are gone now. Replaced with nothing or Facebook photos. I am ready to throw this thing out the window.

I might just be imagining it but, the volume seems to be lower after the 2.1 update. The lowest volume 'bar' sounds noticeably lower than pre-2.1.

I've noticed this, too. Not necessarily a bad thing, since the lowest volume before was still a little too loud for listening on headphones in a quiet place. However, now I really have to crank up the volume if I'm somewhere loud, as the max volume also seems lower...

That is really odd and the first time I have ever heard of something like that. Are these Google contacts or phone contacts? Meaning are they listed under your contacts in your gmail account? Where they all just listed by first name? So you had 6 different contacts simply named Josh? That is the only reason I can think of.

Is it me or does the weather app that comes with Sense not working properly? When I open it, a prompt comes up and then the program crashes.

Why is there a difference??????? A contact should be a contact! I have Google contacts, phone contacts, Facebook contacts, this is friggin' madness!

Before, you put someone in your phone and assigned extra information. What is going on now doesn't make sense.

I just unlinked everyone off of one Josh, thinking it would split up. Everyone I unlinked stayed whereas the Josh I was trying to edit disappeared.

One thing I noticed on the leak v3, and it's probably the same on the OTA, is that by default it will turn the ringer down when the phone is moved. If you have the phone set to vibrate as well as ring, you'll only get a few seconds of the ringer because the vibrate moves the phone, which in turn lowers the volume of the ring to zero. So unless you hear the phone in the first few seconds you receive a call, you will miss the call.

You can either turn the vibrate off, or you can change the settings so that it doesn't modify the ringer volume when the phone is moved.

Go to settings -> Sound & Display to change these.

In my honest opinion after updating my wifes phone this AM (not manually) the OTA has more bugs than the leaks! HTC widgets are missing, some settings stayed exactly the same but others totally reset...just really random and sporadic...my wife now hates her phone :(

There is a difference because you can classify them as different types of contacts. Google contacts sync with your gmail account. This way, if you switch to a new Android phone, you won't lose any contacts. You can choose to keep FB contacts separate and so forth.

You're dealing with a smart phone here, it's designed to be flexible. It's also designed for advanced users or users who are willing to learn. I'm not saying this to put you down, but it sounds like you want a more simple interface and functionality. If that's the case, you could always look into a phone that meets your needs better. Also, if you haven't already, use last names in your contacts. If you do, it won't lump those people together.

There is a difference for people that use their phone for personal and business needs. I have contacts that are only business contacts. They are not friends and to be honest I don't even like them. I don't want them on my gmail account at all. You are also given the option as to which gmail account you will sync a specific contact to.

I would suggest looking at this from your gmail account on a computer rather than trying to edit all of it on your phone. Your contacts may be set properly still in gmail and just messed up on the phone.

Am I the only one who loves 2.1 and has relatively no issues with it? I did a factory reset after the install, so maybe that's why. I love my phone more now with 2.1 than I ever did with 1.5. It's way snappier now and the new features/improvements are great. There are a few very minor bugs here and there, but nothing that affects how I use the phone.
