Report your 2.1 OTA error /bugs/complaints here.

Am I the only one who loves 2.1 and has relatively no issues with it? I did a factory reset after the install, so maybe that's why. I love my phone more now with 2.1 than I ever did with 1.5. It's way snappier now and the new features/improvements are great. There are a few very minor bugs here and there, but nothing that affects how I use the phone.

I'm right there with you. :D

[*]My husband has the same phone and got his update 3 days before me (even though he got his phone a month after I did); in any case, he uses the Favorites widget, but it won't work, each time you add someone, the previous person disappears

Have him add one person to the favorites. This creates the category. Then he can go to settings -> accounts & sync and tell it to sync his Google contacts. Then have him log into his gmail account. He can add contacts to the favorites group from there instead of the phone.

This may fix the issue.

There is a difference for people that use their phone for personal and business needs. I have contacts that are only business contacts. They are not friends and to be honest I don't even like them. I don't want them on my gmail account at all. You are also given the option as to which gmail account you will sync a specific contact to.

I would suggest looking at this from your gmail account on a computer rather than trying to edit all of it on your phone. Your contacts may be set properly still in gmail and just messed up on the phone.

I pulled up everything in my gmail contacts. There's no way to link a Facebook profile from there. The only thing indicating is a Note section with a bunch of random numbers (I'm guessing the FB profile ID).

Everything in my gmail/Google contacts looks fine. Numbers, names, facebook profiles. On my phone, everything is out of wack.

Not to mention I could care less about the gmail stuff. I only have one for the phone and rarely use it.

When was the last time your contacts sync'd with Google? If you go to Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> Google you can look. It's possible it's correct when you log into gmail and not on your phone because it just needs to sync. You can force a sync from that screen.

If all your contacts are in gmail and they all look fine, then wipe the contacts on the phone and resync them. That should put everything back to normal.

Hooray, just found yet another bug.

Unless I'm missing something, I am no longer getting notifications of updated versions of my apps. It used to dutifully check at least once a day (sometimes more than once a day) and display an icon in the notification bar when it found new versions.

Only after I browse manually to "Market" and bring up the "Downloads" menu does it show which apps have newer versions. And then it will only show the "Updates" icon in the notification bar... after I install one of the updates for one of the apps!

Conspiracy theory: I wonder if they leaked the V3/OTA build in this condition, just to make us all pay for being so impatient for months, pestering everyone at HTC and Verizon.

(No, I'm not serious). :p

How would I do that? Won't it start combining people again once I resync?

Sorry if I've sounded so nasty btw, its not directed towards you.

Don't worry, I didn't think it was. I understand that it is frustrating.

If everything is synced to gmail then you will at least have a reference point for your contacts. The facebook stuff will take care of itself. This way if they do start combining again you can always correct them. BTW, having full names with each contact should help to prevent them from being combined. For whatever reason the phone is viewing all Jakes or Joshs as one person and trying to, believe it or not, be helpful by putting all the relevant info together.

OTA update...
Factory Reset after update..

Issues are:
1. MarketPlace force closes often
2. Battery life is worse
3. Signal strength is worse
4. I still get lagging issues, in text, sometimes multiple text of the same thing over and over. I was hoping this update fixed all that, but no such luck!
5. Still having alarm clock with no alarm sound, makes it hard to wake up without sound.. :)
6. Weather is often wrong or takes a long time to update on home screen widget, had this issue with both 1.5 and 2.1
7. Pinch to zoom, not so good

On a good note, I do love Navigator and many of the new features!

Some that I found that I haven't read yet...

1. Text messages get hung up when sending. Load wheel just spins and I have to delete the message and resend. Kind of a pain.

2. Phone/Dialer locks up or is very slow. When making a call and then hanging up the in call screen locks up then goes black. I have to wait a bit before it pops up the dial pad again. Really annoying.

3. Also, some calls I receive, after accepting them, never actually come through the ear piece. I answer while the phone says it's connected and it doesn't even sound like the the earpiece mic is active. This only happens a few times.

4. Contacts FB linking conflicting with exchange linking. I want to link the information I have in the exchange profile for the contact but I want to use the link to FB for the contact image. When both are selected, the photo either goes blank or brings up a really old pic that probably got saved in my google account. I fixed it by removing the old pic and refreshing the FB link.

Other then that this update is really sweet! Just wish it included all the 2.1 goodies. :-(

Why is there a difference??????? A contact should be a contact! I have Google contacts, phone contacts, Facebook contacts, this is friggin' madness!

Before, you put someone in your phone and assigned extra information. What is going on now doesn't make sense.

I just unlinked everyone off of one Josh, thinking it would split up. Everyone I unlinked stayed whereas the Josh I was trying to edit disappeared.

Weird, mine condensed some (I just used this thread to figure that out) When I unlinked them, they went back to separate contacts in my phone.

I really do like the phone more after the update. However I am still pissed off that the audio clips when playing music over bluetooth. Having the Sync system in my car isn't as nice now.

My wife's phone was using 1.5 before she received the OTA update this past weekend. Today she told me that since the update, her phone won't ring when she receives calls.

I tried calling her, and it lights up, but no ringing. Any idea what to do to fix it?

Restart the phone, possibly a battery pull. It's the only way to fix it. It is (in my opinion) an inexcusable error with the phone. People keep saying that it may be hardware reacting to the 2.1 software, but I say if they couldn't get parity between the phones, then they shouldn't have released the OTA.

It's been said before, but a factory reset may solve some issues. (Check out Frisco's thread.) My issues (force closes on both calendar and weather) were fixed after I did a reset. Be sure to back up first!

Hey guys, I'm new here. I wanted to see if anyone else has been have this particular issue. My Eris was rock solid on 1.5 and I waited and got the 2.1 OTA. Everything has been pretty good far except that I've noticed that occasionally the sound turns off completely. Whenever this happens I also get the silent call issue where I can call out but I can't hear anyone and they can't here me. Turning the phone off and on seems to clear it up, but it's annoying because I usually notice it when I need to make a call. Is there a workaround other than the factory reset that some people are suggesting? I was thinking that maybe there is an app I have installed that's causing it but so far I have been unsuccessful in resolving it. Any suggestions?

I have been with 2.1 for a few days now. Like it very much. The only problems so far:

1. Every time I open the browser, it closes itself (no fc message, just closes and goes back to the homescreen) the first time. Then the second time on, it's fine. If I go a while after using the browser (more than an hour or so) it does the same thing. More of an annoyance than a real problem IMO.

2. When I go to adjust the volume, there is a HUGE lag before it actually does anything. Then it will adjust fine.

3. My signal strength bars are lower (worse) but my signal (dB) is the same.

My weather works, all of my widgets are there, phone seems a bit snappier although still somewhat annoying lag on the dialer but not quite as bad as before.

Best improvement: my battery life is about 50% better than it was even in low signal areas.

Thanks. That fixed all my issues, too.

I updated from Android 1.5 to the OTA 2.1 and now have a problem with my POP3 e-mail being deleted from the mail server when I delete them on my Eris. I have the "Delete mail on server" setting "Off", but it still deletes it from the server. I did not have this problem on 1.5 and I had the same setting as above. Anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it?

I did the factory reset after having some issues with the new upgrade to 2.1. So far it's doing ok, but...:

1. The battery life still stinks.

2. After ending a call, the phone locks up usually after I close out the Dialer app.

3. Still getting 50% or less signal.

On the plus side...

1. The lagging volume adjustment went away for now and I also had the strange silent call. I suspect it may have something to do with the Audio Manager app I was using when I upgraded, now it's gone and so far everything works.

so far thats it...

Same here. In fact, I no longer have the option to not delete messages from the server (or, at least, I can't find it in the options menu anymore...).

Once you have the Mail Program loaded, Goto Menu, More, Settings, Send & Receive. The 5th option down is "Delete mail on server." I have mine unchecked, but it still deletes the mail from the server.

DO A FACTORY RESET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i tried everything from resyncing to a battery pull, and nothing seemed to help (i had some strange things going on in my contacts that no one else seemed to have issues with, i posted it on this thread), and FINALLY when i did the factory reset, ALL OF MY ISSUES WERE GONE!

YES its a hassle to dl all your apps again but ITS SO WORTH IT:p

ever since i did the OTA update yesterday morning, my phone is SUPER slow. i've turned it off and on, pulled the battery for a minute, taken apps off, and nothing seems to work to make it run as well as it did before i updated. help please?! i LOVE the phone, so this is kinda frustrating. although the update fixed my picture messaging problem.. hmm.

I did the Factory Data Reset after OTA install after having some problems with the END button not locking the screen. I HAVE NOT HAD ONE PROBLEM SINCE!!!

Pros>
Google Nav/Maps
Better Battery Life
Overall Faster Performance
YouTube now works as it should
Browser is noteably faster
New menu layouts are better looking

Cons>
Thinks they could have done more

Also note that some of your applications that you were running may not be compatible with 2.1 (I had a problem with Spare Parts)

All in all I an happy with the update...though I am not sure how much more our processor could handle with future updates/upgrades
