Help Repurposing Screen in my phone

CORGII

Lurker
I have water damaged my phone, and there is no repairing it, mainly because I was stupid enough to attempt to turn it on whilst it was still wet.

I have an on-going project that could make use of the screen, but I am wandering what resources or tutorials people have use of here. I have never done something like this before, and it may turn out to be useless because of the water damage, or maybe because of proprietary tech that Samsung uses. It would even be great to restore the touch capabilities but just having use of the screen itself would be enough.

Thanks for any help, and I am kind of sorry my first post is a help thread but I trust this would be a good place to ask. If it is in the wrong section please tell me!

Sounds cool tbh. What u plannin to do for a start?
You could be right about it being hard though because samsung are so tight with the drivers for the hardware they make (display, cpu, etc) good luck though.
If anything, sell the display, its the most valuable part of the phone

Well it's a tad ambitious, but I am determined. I'll copy-paste what I wrote in a different forum to appease my apathy :p

Just wated to start by saying I have no idea if this is the appropriate section for this so apologies in advance.

Ever since my beloved iPod classic died I have have sat around like a lazy lama and did shit all about it, but I seriously miss having a portable media player. After finding out about the Raspberry Pi I figured it would make for a nice, but chunky alternative that I could customise to my liking. So my idea was to repurpose old parts to create, or attempt to create my own portable media centre. Portability obviously tied to power requirements I guess.

But unfortunately I do not have the knowledge essential to put this in realistic terms so I was wandering if anybody could confirm what I am trying to achieve, and no I am not at all concerned about the size of the device as I always have my backpack with me.

So, here is the plan so far:

1. Purchase Raspberry Pi (Model B) and case of some description
2. Purchase the correct convertor for the 1.8" HD that still works inside the old iPod. I think it is a ZIF connector, I will look into this further.
3. Either purchase a small screen from recommendations or attempt to re-purpose my Samsung S3 screen if at all possible.
4. Set up linux on it, and tailor it for my purpose.

Now for the probably unrealistic parts.

I don't understand how I can calculate the power requirements, nor do I understand electronics in general and how well the Pi can scale with added power requirements. I want to know if it is possible to make it portable with a battery, and I am willing to purchase an entirely too expensive one if I have too, to make this work.

Thanks for any assistance guys.

Yeh so that is the whole story. I feel this project would be so satisfying if pulled off correctly. :smokingsomb:
