Root req oc kernel question

OK, I fail at making backups, but lets go beyond that.

I have flashed a rom that has ext4 file system and req's oc rom for the admire, set at 900.

My phone doesnt operate at 900 without massive fc all the time - 850 I can kinda get away with, but basically i need to stay at 800.

Given that I have no rfs filesystem backups, what I would like to do is simply make the kernel boot at 800mhz and then use setcpu to maintain that speed.

Now, what exactly has to be modified to make this change on boot?

Im teaching myself about roms as I go and I just learned to decompile a boot.img, so I can use the faq Im reading to walk myself through changes and recompiling, but Im basically a script kiddie at this point, and I need my hand held please.

What files to edit and what edits to make - information please?

**** OR **** if its possible to flash a seperate kernel thats not oc'd but handles ext4 file systems and would be better on my battery life anyways, please advise as to how to do that!

Try ROM Toolbox's CPU Manager, it gives an option to set at boot... same with voltage control. And I think req0 made a 800MHz kernel but idk where it is...

you fail at making backups?? jeeze guy, in CWM there is a section titled Backup and Restore. did you not see that while rushing to flash?

you can either use a backup that has been provided on here, they arent too hard to find or you can look for the stock kernel which is also on here somwhere hidden, i know req made a kernel thats at 800, so its basically a reworked stock kernel and that Boraichee (i think it was him) also posted up the actual kernel from the stock phone. time to get to know these forums well my friends, use that search button ;) ive been in the threads that contain them before but idk where they are now

http://androidforums.com/admire-all...rnel-stock-cwm-flashable-metropcs-kernel.html here you go, i found the stock kernel link for you. the search button is a powerful too ;)

i believe theres Voltage control and Setcpu available. more of standalone voltage manager for the cpu. would require far less resources then a rom tool kit type app. i think the app does it all. set at800 then set at boot.

so, let me just make sure I have this right:

I can flash a rom which has an overclocked kernel, then go back and flash a non overclocked kernel and the rom will still work ?

i would think it depends on the kernel. you are setup for ext4. the 800 kernel must be ext4as well. i cant say for all roms but Exanple, the OA rom in the sticky ,800is rfs the 900 is ext4 there may be ab 800 ext4 kernel depending on your rim. but first i woukd try to keep your rom ans kernel. and sinply reduce cpu speed. its super easy and you just push a button to make the settings at boot. ithat would be a super easy test if it works you have performance of ext4 and stabilty of 800 . it sound lije you have already played with cpu speed. all you need is set at boot. should be as sinple as clicking a button
