Root reroot/unroot desire help

Hello

Sorry if there is a guide to this, but I did look... and more sorry i'm a iOS user needing help!

My girlfriend messed up her rotted desire... no idea what she did, I think it was a factory restore. But anyway the phone will only go to the bootload menu (I assume the OS has gone) I can't see a way to get either the original build on, or even a rotted os on to get the phone working... help!

She can't get into recovery from the hboot menu?

If she cannot but is S-Off (see top of the hboot screen) she could fastboot flash a new recovery.

Otherwise (and if S-On this may be only option) download an RUU from shipped-roms.com (android section, device name bravo unless it is a CDMA phone, ie no sim card, in which case bravoc). I'd suggest the 2.3 update for gsm handset. It's a windows exe (inside the zip for 2.3), connect phone via usb and run program. Select fastboot mode on phone first.

The rooting faq in the All Things Root Guide sticky post in the Desire All Things Root forum will have a little more info.

Sorry terse & no links, - only have seconds online.

If s-off and with custom hboot may need to change that before can run ruu. If it says something like CM7R2 in pink letters at top of hboot screen wait for advice before proceeding.

I can get in to recovery, but it does nothing... all the options are there but I assume the sd card has no rom on it.

the details on the screen are:
---alphrev---
bravo pvt3 ship s-off
hboot - 0.93.0001
microp -051d
touch panel - synw0101
radio - 05.17.05.08

That's the Hboot screen rather than recovery. The good news is you are s-off. Can you scroll down the menu with the volume buttons until you get to recovery? When Recovery is highlighted push the power button briefly. It should then boot recovery. What do you see?

If you can get into recovery you can copy a ROM .zip to the sd (mounts & storage menu, mount sd over usb). If she ever took a backup from recovery then you can restore that. Or you can try a factory reset from recovery - I don't know how the phone got into this state, but a factory reset only erases apps/data, so won't itself be the cause (though if she formatted other stuff that might).

Do what Nicka says, select recovery and get into it if you can (volume to highlight the word recovery, then power key to select it). Don't bother with flashing stock software (RUUs) as this should be fixable without.

Neither ROM nor recovery is on sd - you copy a ROM .zip to sd in order to install it from recovery, but that's all. Do you know what ROM she was using previously?

Who knows what she did, she's a destroyer of tech :D

the recovery screen has clockworkmod recovery v 5.8.0.2 with:
reboot
install zip
wipe data
wipe cache
back and restore
mounts
advanced

No idea what rom she had, but it was old, maybe 2 yers old. so all I do is get a working zip on the sd card and install?

Guys I think I have it up n running... with a slow Italian version of jellybean... it works so it's back to her now to suss out what it's doing :D Cheers for the help
