Root Reset Rooted Droid X

I want to give my rooted Droid X away and want to clear all the data and reset it back to factory settings. Can someone tell me the easiet way to achieve this? (I now have the Droid Bionic)

What would happen if I did a factory data reset via the settings menu?

I'm not 100 % sure, but I think you will need to SBF back to .602 to completely remove root. I don't think a reset will get rid of everything added by rooting.

Will a reset remove my personal data without messing up the rooted Droid? I mean will it leave it rooted?

Is there a thread on how to set it back to factory settings (easily)?

A factory reset will reset the phone to its out of the box condition. It will not do anything to your SD card unless you choose to wipe it during the process. All of the settings and free apps will be wiped. If you bought any apps through the market, it will reinstall those apps after a factory reset. Here's a link to Verizon's support forum that has a pretty thorough guide for a factory reset.

https://vzwsupport.jive-mobile.com/#jive-discussion?content=%2Fapi%2Fcore%2Fv2%2Fdiscussions%2F544836 (just noticed it's a link to the mobile site because I'm on my phone. Should still work though.)

A factory reset will also do nothing to the root access. To unroot the device, you'll have to use the same program you used to root. Psouza4's root I believe is what I used.

Using sbf will do all of this in one shot and there are a couple ways to do that. If you do decide to sbf, I'd recommend either 602 or 605 since it's a lot easier to root those versions.

I've searched for how to do the spf as recommended but they all seem to deal with rooting not unrooting. Can you provide me with a link on how to do this? Thanks so much for your help.

Just follow the steps in the pinned thread " [TUTORIAL]Simple Gingerbread .602 SBF and Root Process (Updated 9.9.11)" and stop after the SBF instructions (no rooting required).

That's it... piece of cake!

SBF by itself will not clear anything off your SD card so don't forget that will still need your attention.

OK, so I am in a similar situation, but unlike the OP, I want to KEEP that the DX is rooted, but give it to my wife and let her put her Google account, etc. on it. I want to keep it rooted as I am the 'tech support' here. :)

So, currently rooted running CM7 on GB.650, is the best way to remove my Google account things from the DX still to tell it to do the factory reset mentioned above (and yet that would KEEP the root access)? Or is there some easy way to just change ownership with regard to whose Google account is on it. Really, that is all I need to do, because we are both on the same Verizon plan, so we can just do an 'upgrade' (or whatever it is called) and re-assign the DX to her cell number. I have already restored a nandroid I made right after I rooted it and installed CM7.

If your just transferring the phone to her she can just do a factory reset then after that she'll just sign in with her Google account and password. Make sure her contacts are backed up to her Google account also because verizon backup assistant is not available on cm7. That way when she signs in with her Google account her contacts will automatically be restored. You also won't lose root by just doing a factory reset.

Using the Linux .iso I SBF'd & Rooted to .604 Milestone X.

Can I now SBF & Root to .605 Droid X using the .605 Linux .iso?
