Help [RESOLVED] Can't send photos via text message on my Bionic

[RESOLVED] --> Replaced SIM card (LINK)

ORIGINAL POST:
Text messages work fine by themselves, but when I attempt to attach a photo, they fail, EVERY TIME ....though I can receive photos from others in their txt msg to me.

Verizon knows about this problem. They think it is a problem on their end; something to do with a message that got 'stuck' and is somehow blocking all others from getting through. I'm not so sure. I think it's something that's wrong with the Bionic, but since they are taking blame for it voluntarily and are looking into it on their end, I will let it be, and see what happens.

The bad thing now is that, when I was at the Verizon store over a week ago, they told me that one of their techs would be calling me back to help me with this problem within the next 24-48 hours, but that call hasn't happened yet.....and it's still not fixed (i.e. I still can't send photos to anyone via txt msg). I guess I will have to waste more of my time to go there someday after work.

I've just sent a picture to a buddy of mine using the regular SMS/MMS app - if he replies that he got it, then it's not a problem that is with all BIONICs - so it's either your BIONIC, or else a VZW problem with your account.

Just got confirmation - using the stock SMS app I was able to send a pic that I took from my BIONIC the day I bought it...of the very VERY cute sales associate at WA in CostCo that sold me my phone.

MMS works - for me.

OK, cool. Thanks, John.
I guess, since VZW has already laid claim to the blame on this one, I will go in there this weekend and see why the 24-48 hours has turned into a couple hundred hours

I don't feel comfortable posting her pic, name, or info, but she was cute, and her FB page has pics of he in more casual attire. She's got tats all around, some picturesque and at least one being a Bible verse (left arm), and that's all I'm going to say about her.

Oh, other than I invited her to the forums b/c she wanted help with her phone and I suggested to her to come here - but she never replied to my suggestion.

Hahaha, I was not asking for her picture or information, I just loved the comment ;)

I too have been having issues sending MMS. I can't get any picture messages to go through....even to myself. They didnt work when I was on the stock firmware and they still dont work after updating to 5.7.893. Does anyone know if there is a bloat app that I may have frozen that is necessary for MMS messages?

PS. I use Handcent, although when trying to use the default text message app it doesnt work either.

These are most likely network issues. Call tech support from a different phone and don't waste your time going into a store. They're worthless unless you want to be sold a phone (and probably lied to). They will hand you a phone to call tech support.

Worthless.

i have this problem sporadically. i'll try sending the pic and the message just gets stuck sending. i have discovered that if i delete that message and try sending a different pic most of the time is works. i don't understand why, it's like some pics are corrupted or something. very wierd and annoying when it happens.

Im not positive, but Im fairly certain ive had this problem ever since I got my Bionic. And i've tried sending the MMS messages in different areas too with no luck. Has anyone had a problem like this and fixed it?

Found a solution!....

"Use root explorer, and make sure it is set to R/W mode (read/write). Navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db and delete that file, then restart your phone. After the restart, you should be able to send and receive MMS messages."

i didn't delete the filter, but rather renamed it. It worked! But can anyone tell me what that file does?

I don't think this is a Bionic only problem. I had an LG Ally with the same problem--until it got ran over by a truck last Saturday!. Now, of course, it doesn't send any SMS/MMS. I've got a Bionic coming tomorrow to replace it.

Ha ha, thanks. I totally know what you mean.
The only reason I wanted to go back to the store is so that I could have them use their phone to make the call in case we need to dink around on mine during the troubleshooting session, and I'd rather not have to call them back after a battery pull or whatever.

Has anyone had a problem like this and fixed it?

Yep....see below...

Can you tell us where that "quote" comes from?

MY PROBLEM IS RESOLVED:
Last weekend, I went in to the Verizon store, and had them call tech support. This time, I had a pretty girl helping me instead of the geeky techie guy (no offense....I'm a geeky techie guy)...so that was kind of a bonus. :-)

Anyway... while on the phone, the Verizon tech person suggested to her that she might want to try replacing the SIM card.

She did that, and then we tested sending pics via txt msg, and.........
it worked!!

So, while I still can't say exactly what was causing the problem, what I can say is that replacing the SIM card 'fixed' it in my particular situation.

Good luck to everyone else that's still dealing with that headache.

It came from a forum....I believe it was either XDA or androidcentral.com cant remember for sure.

Ha ha
This is funny......I decided to search to see if I could find where the quote came from, and after going through the rabbit hole (which is doubly funny, cause I just went to see the local high school's presentation of the musical 'Alice in Wonderland' last night)....going to this site and that site, this forum and that forum...all kinds of places it has been quoted back and forth......it finally lead me back here to AndroidForums.com where it originally was stated...

Hilarious!

Again though....in case someone is just tuning in, this issue was resolved in my particular case by simply replacing the SIM card.

Well it turns out this issue may not be resolved completely. I went to send a MMS message today (just a picture I had taken with the bionic camera) and the message wouldn't send. I got an error message from Handcent that said the message couldn't send because "the content was invalid". I went into my phone's root directory to see if the changes I made above were still in place (renaming the telephony file) only to find out that my phone had created a new telephony file 5 days ago (nearly 2 or 3 weeks since I renamed the original).

Does anyone know what this file is for or why it would conflict with sending MMS messages? If I don't need it, how do I keep the phone from continuing to recreate it?

I could not email an attached picture. I went and stopped all the unecessary background services under settings - applications - running services. Now I can email pictures quickly.

So the question remains....why do I need to rename my telephony.db file to something the phone doesn't recognize in order to get my MMS messages to send? What issue might my phone have that requires me to do this?

this worked great thanks!!!!!

Ted,

Just so you are aware, that solution is only temporary and short lived. As you can see from the posts in this thread, it will work for a short while, but eventually the telephony.db file will become a problem again (which I never found out why or how to correct). When this was an issue, I was on the .7XX leaked update that eventually became a non-supported update. Since then, I have updated to the .902 build and I have no longer had this problem with sending photos in text messages.
