htc sync failed to mount/unmount storage, this is the error I am getting now since an update htc sync took using version 3.0.5579.

It won't let my sync anything. any help would be appreciated.

Running windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks

hi,

did you try another computer?

did you scan your card for errors using windows error checker thingy?

remove the card from the handset, install into a computer and do a scan using the error checker. could be some read/write inaccuracies causing your issue.

Looks like After the update something got corrupt, I uninstalled all three Htc file in the uninstaller list. re installed all is good now.

Thanks for the reply though

how do you scan the SD card? My computer won't do it automatically because it says the card is running

pull the card out of the handset and install in the computers card slot.

or just reboot the phone and plug it up and mount card as drive.

I was having this same issue and here's what I did to fix it.

When you get the error:

Look in the system tray for the eject safely icon. Mine always showed it had mounted the sdcard from some reason. Safely eject the sdcard.

On the phone where it says change connection type make sure it's HTC Sync and click the "Don't ask again" box. This is important because if yours defaults to Disk Drive, Windows will mount your sdcard and HTC Sync will continue to fail.

Press "DISCONNECT" on HTC Sync

unplug usb cable.

Right click on the HTC Sync icon in the system tray and choose "Exit."
I always wait 30 sec just in case to let a program shut down completely.

Start HTC Sync from the Start Menu.

Plug in the phone.

Now it should work.

It did it again after I added bookmarks to be synchronized and repeating this worked.

Hope that helps

(Mine is an HTC Evo 3D but it should be the same for any HTC device.)

Thanks benardmaalouf!
I have the HTC Rezound and I had the same problem. I followed the steps in your post and was able to sync up just fine.

I have tried the above steps but the problem still persists. Anyone have any ideas?

Some more info would be quite helpful in trying to figure this out.

Which carrier provides your phone service (which country are you in)?
What operating system is on your computer - Windows 7? XP? 32 Bit? 64 Bit?
What version of Sync are you trying to install?

Etc.

Sorry,

Carrier: Tesco Mobile
OS: Windows XP
HTC Sync: 3.0.5617

Tried to reinstall it, still didn't work.

Sorry if you have tried all these steps already, just going through the basics.

Uninstall all previous versions and make sure there are no left over files in the system before trying to install a new version. Also, make sure your computer is not running any un-needed conflicting background applications or anti-virus softwares.

First thing I'd look for is a version of HTC Sync pre-loaded in storage on the MicroSD card in the phone. Connect the phone to the computer as a disk drive and explore the SD cards files for it. It is supposed to be there - although if you find it that will likely be an older version. If you do find it, copy it to the computer hard drive and proceed to install it to the PC after un-mounting and un-hooking the phones USB connection.

The HTC Worldwide Support and Downloads page for the Evo 3D (GSM) has the same version number 3.0.5617 as you have. Some of the help pages are redirecting to the US page for the Evo 3D (CDMA) though. That install file is called 3.0.5617_us.exe
If your current copy has the _us in the filename I think you will want to get the non-US version? (They may or may not be same - just named differently - I'm not sure, but better to rule out the variable.)

Go to this page on your PC and hit the download button for a fresh copy of HTC Sync 3.0.5617 (Non U.S.)
HTC Worldwide | EVO 3D Product Support - HTC Help Center

Also reference this page HTC Worldwide | HTC Sync - Install Instructions for installation requirements. It lists "Windows XP Home/Pro/Media Center SP 2 & 3 (32 Bit)" This may mean that 64 Bit versions are not fully supported for Windows XP. I've seen more than one person report problems with HTC Sync and 64 Bit OS's.

To check if you have a 32 Bit or 64 Bit version of XP, right click 'Computer' and click 'properties' or try these methods from the Microsoft Support webpage:
"Windows XP
If you have Windows XP, there are two methods to determine whether you are running a 32-bit or a 64-bit version. If one does not work, try the other.

Method 1: View System Properties in Control Panel

  • Click Start, and then click Run.
  • Type sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
  • Click the General tab. The operating system is displayed as follows:
For a 64-bit version operating system: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version < Year> appears under System.
For a 32-bit version operating system: Windows XP Professional Version <Year> appears under System.
(Note <Year> is a placeholder for a year.)

Method 2: View System Information window

  • Click Start, and then click Run.
  • Type winmsd.exe, and then click OK.
When System Summary is selected in the navigation pane, locate Processor under Item in the details pane. Note the value.
If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with x86, the computer is running a 32-bit version of Windows.
If the value that corresponds to Processor starts with ia64 or AMD64, the computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows.

Thanks for your generous advice.

I fixed it. I had the HTC Sync app installed to SD card, I moved it back onto phone memory and its working ok now.

Interesting, The new version (I haven't tried Sync since the old version 2.0.something) of Sync actually installs an application to the phone. I noticed on my U.S. phone, 'Move to SD card' is not even an option available for that application in my application manager. The button is greyed out and un-selectable.

Yea it usually doesn't allow the option to move it but I used android SDK to force apps to install on SD card. I would recommend it.

I have tried all the suggestions on this thread where I can do so but nothing works. I keep getting the "failoure to mount/unmount storage card". I have uninstalled the HTC sync on the PC. I have ejected the card, I have tried to quit HTC (although my HTC icon does not provide the same options as that suggested on this thread).
When this problem started, i could fix it by unplugging the UBS cable a few times and then trying again. But that does not work any more.
Moreover, I have found that photos and downloads disappear from the gallery on the phone. Then after sync, they reappear - except that now i cannot sync (except for people and calendar) the photos have gone for ever.
And the touch screen has a blank spot in the middle of the screen
Any clues or is it time for a new phone. (Now a year old)
