Root Restore back to factory *everything*

Hey all

I have a Desire HD which I recently rooted using the advanced ace hack kit, following the instructions in the all things root roudup sticky post.

I then went on to install LeeDroid, and then performed an S-Off and flashed the radio to a newer one from the XDA DHD rom thread.

My question is...if I wanted to revert back to the standard DHD rom, bootloader, radio, etc etc and return the handset to how it was before I did all the rooting, etc, how do I do it?

Many thanks in advance!

Uri

im a newbie at this so wait for El Pres to assist, but if you Did your back up before you flashed Leedroid... boot into clcokwork.. click backup/restore

click restore, chose your backed up rom from the list and restore.

BUT AGAIN, WAIT FOR SOMEONE WITH LOADS MORE KNOWLEDGE THAN I HAVE

Thanks dude!

I'm pretty sure I backed up...I'm most worried about the radio update I did.

To explain a bit further, I want to grab the new Sense 3 OTA update to see what it's like...

Good idea humpdog - this would return the phone to the state it was when the backup was made.

In order to return the phone to the state it was when it came out of the factory though (with the original HTC ROM and the HTC recovery image), you'd need to use an ruu (ROM Upgrade Utility) - this is all from memory and I'd need to double check the info for you... I haven't actually used one of these myself.

There was a list of ruu's somewhere on here - I'll have a look and see if I can find it and link it for you!

I am not sure that it is a good idea to grab an OTA update if you are running a custom ROM... I've heard that it can cause issues with your phone.

As for the radio - it shouldn't matter (as far as I'm aware).

By the way... running an ruu (as I mentioned above) would un-root your phone!

boooooooooooo booooooooooooo

Have been looking and not been able to find the ruu's.

Out of interest Uri, was your DHD unbranded or was it carrier branded? If you only want to put the phone back to how it was, you should be ok with putting an HTC stock ROM on your phone, to get the OTA update.

Also - if you are rooted, there are Sense based custom ROM's available that have both Sense 3.0 and 3.5 on them - have you not considered trying one of them? I ask, as the custom Sense ROM's are usually better than HTC's anyway, as they have performance tweaks...

^^ This.

There's also a list of RUU's here: http://androidforums.com/htc-desire-hd/196270-htc-desire-hd-useful-links-files.html

Some of the links are dead though, but the stock RUU's are there.

Hey guys

Thanks so much for all the very informative (and speedy!) responses.

My handset is from Three UK but according to all the checks I was able to make, it's an unbranded unit.

I only did all the rooting stuff the other day (without any real hitches) but was curious on how one would go about undoing all the hacking.

First was to check the "official" HTC update, and also in case I ever had to send it back to Three for warranty repair, etc

I recently sent it back for a volume button fix...very impressed with the service but I don't think they would touch a handset with a custom ROM. They were also supposed to look at a possibly dodgy GPS, but I'm not sure if it's been sorted or not.

If I want to send it back again (repairs have 90 day warranty on top of the handset warranty), I'll have to revert it to stock.

I'll have a look into the RUU stuff and see if I can get my head around it :)

So... if I went back to a stock Desire HD ROM, would all the root/bootloader/s-off items be removed, and would the radio be returned to the same as a stock handset? (or the radio that came with the HTC ROM, you know what I mean I think :) ).

I have to say LeeDroid is decent, but the site is a little out of date. Are there any other more cutting-edge Sense ROMs out there?

FYI I flashed with radio version 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M. Apart from taking forever to get a GPS lock this morning, all seems to work fine and the GPS is behaving again.

Ah so the RUU is a full utility to restore the handset, cool.

Snagged the 2 current gingerbread versions on that forum post, just in case they go away.

Have to say I am loving the ability to over/underclock the CPU. Noticed a few visual glitches in firefox when running over 1.2ghz (odd line here and there) but generally very good.

Anyway, I digress from the original point.

I'll have a crack at running the RUU later or tomorrow, and update as to the result, so we can capture the info in this post in case anyone else wants to reference it in the future.

Thank you!

I'd recommend RCMix if you're looking for a good Sense ROM. It's based off the Sensation XL/XE software and one of the best Sense ROMs I've tried.

From what I understand, the rru is a tool and it's a case of running it... pretty straight forward really. Like I said though, I haven't done it before!

EDIT - d'oh... hate it when I get distracted whilst writing a reply and then the conversation's moved on!

Ah yes thanks Presidente - I think I got my s-off/s-on a bit mixed up!

I was anticipating using the RUU would knock me back to scratch root-wise, but that's what I want really.

Hey all

So, just wanted to confirm that the RUU does indeed flash the whole shebang back to factory settings.

This includes the radio version.

I was wondering - is this some sort of service centre utility from HTC, or is it a 3rd-party offering?

Now I know how all this root stuff works, and how to revert, I can have a good hack at it!

I guess I need to start a new thread to find out what the "best" ROMs are, etc!

Thanks again

Ah yes - do you have a link to the "latest" version of RCMix?

I'm finding it hard tracking down the definitive version over at XDA...

Thanks!

Are you still S-OFF? I thought the RUU kept S-OFF?

They're official from HTC, but leaked I believe.

Thanks El Presidente

Not sure about the s-on/s-off....but I just installed RCMix so too late to check now!

I guess I'm hooked with the rooting thing!
