Root restoring a nandroid back up

I downloaded the orange rom as posted on XDA devs - I need to return my phone due to it always crashing (requiring a battery pull) when I make phone calls.

I went into clockwork recovery and restored the backup (after playing with the MD5 sums to make them match) and it restored correctly

The question I have is how long should it take to boot past the green HTC text? Seems to be taking a very long time (over 20 mins and counting)

I don't quite understand what you are doing here. You downloaded an "orange ROM" because you need to return your phone, but I guess you mean an RUU (ROM Update Utility) that would unroot the phone. But in that case, why are you restoring from a nandroid (which is a backup of a ROM you've run previously)? And what do you mean "after playing with the md5 sums"? A mismatched md5 would normally mean that the file is corrupt.

So I'm afraid I can't really advise unless I understand what you are doing. But more than 20 minutes is too long for a boot.

There is a method for AMOLED ONLY desires to return to stock with a bit of jiggery pokery and an Orange nandroid backup someone has.

Is it definitely an AMOLED desire you have?

OK, that makes sense.

Pity, because if it meant that an Orange RUU had become available it would be useful to know where.

god what wouldnt I give for an Orange RUU!

I cant be 100% certain that my phone is amoled, but it came with Hboot 0.75 and I got it in May of last year. I'm lead to believe that SLCD screens came about in July and came with later Hboot versions.

The process is a bit of a bugger, but it can be found here Unroot for Orange UK Desire --Finaly - xda-developers

I've actually pulled battery and tried again, will update in due course.

EDIT:

It booted - it would appear that for some reason the froyo update didnt take the first time.

The reason I wanted to do this is I had an awful problem, and have had it for ages. My phone would randomly crash during phone calls, the screen would be unresponsive and the other party would be cut off from the call. All I would hear would be an awful loud buzzing noise. I wanted to restore to orange so that I could return the phone.

Restoring to orange seems to have fixed it.

I ran the RUU for the generic rom and I havent had an issue since.

I'm thinking I wont bother re-rooting, might be more hassle than its worth.

Its not an issue rooting in itself should be able to cause. Could have been a problem with the rom you were on, or the data that was on your phone.

Maybe a factory reset and flashing another rom would have helped.

I tried a few different roms, sense ones, sense HD ones, non sense ones, each had the same fault. Carried out a full wipe before each flash.

The fault recurred again last night. so the phone will head back to orange after my exams.
