Help Restoring my SII

Vakas

Newbie
My SII is rinning kind of slow so I would like to do a factory reset. The thing I want to know is how can I save all my Settings, Data & Apps and then restore them after the reset so basically it will be the same as it is now.

I want to do this so I don't hav to reinstall all my apps and loose all saved data in my games.

Try MyBackup Pro or similar apps. Some backup apps will change the apps in your phone to APK files which you can save and restore later. This way you don't have to redownload the apps again. Although if you have time and wifi, you could just install the apps again.

For games' saved progress, its a bit of a hit and miss. There are apps that can backup game progress, but these are limited to certain games. Some games (very big games) have their folders in the USB storage space where you can copy them out and then put it back in later. If you are lucky, the game progress will be in the same folders.

Not everything can be saved with factory reset, so best you be prpared to lose a bit.

Here's a little trick I used. On my HTC Desire I used to try out different Roms. All my contacts were synced with Google, as was my Gmail emails and calenders. I didn't/don't have any games on the phone as I have Tablet for gaming. So the only thing I needed to backup and restore was my SMS messages, for which I used SMS backup (original name eh?)

Once I had done a full wipe and installed the new rom I used to set up my Gmail account again and put the wifi on.

OK, here's the useful bit.

I wanted to reinstall my apps afresh, just in case of any issues/corrupt data etc. So I would go to the Google Play store on the PC and log in with my gmail details. Then there is a list under My Apps of all the apps you've downloaded (on your device and under library.) You can then just click on each one and select install, from the PC. The app will then be downloaded to the phone and reinstalled. Then hit the back button and do the next one. It's a lot easier and quicker than using the play store on the phone to reinstall everything.

Just the way I prefer to do it, I was always worried that if I had a problem I would just restore the problem from a useless backup.

Google Play Store

Won't help you with your game saves though. Sorry

Just to add a bit of info there is a simple very useful app for a factory reset is ShareMyApps by Matt Lawrence which can be found in the Google Play Store, there is a free version and a donate version.

It is great for a fresh install of all Google Play Store apps on your device.

it simply makes a list of Google Play installed apps on your device, which you then simply email this list to the Gmail address linked to the device.

Then do your hard reset and login with the Gmail details and go to the email in the Gmail app and tap each app which is now a link and use the Google Play option to open each link and install fresh each app from the Google Play Store.

The Gmail email app list is alphabetically sorted and saves a lot of time sorting thru the Google Play Store list of All My Apps and trying to remember which app's were installed and which were not.

You just go thru the list and install all or do a bit of spring cleaning and install just what you really need.

It is a very handy app for making scheduled backups of the list of installed Google Play Apps on the device.

Might be worth a try. ;-)

Cheers. :)
