Restoring original Firmware

As I said in my previous post about learning how to root etc.

How do i restore the original firmware, and being on Vodafone UK with a GSM handset, how do i know exactly what the official current firmware version is?

I've tried reversing the original rooting process in which the unsecure version of firmware is installed, but odin won't even pick up my phone now. So when i boot it up i still get the yellow triangle below Samsung Galaxy SII, and i can't use kies (won't recognise my phone).

Help appreciated.

If you flash a new firmware, you'll lose root.

The link to vodafone firmware is on slugs sticky above under official carrier firmware. Any would be fine.

If odin won't recognize your phone check that usb debugging is unticked. You p probably ticked it to root, but needs to be untouched for odin

Doing it right aren't i?

Out of USB Debugging
Turn phone off
Put into odin mode
Plug into PC
Load Odin on PC

Usually comes up with the yellow bit when it recognises the phone, just nothing is there.

Kies is installed but says the device im trying to connect is unknown

Sounds right, if by odin mode you mean download mode (vol down + home + power). Wonder if something happened to your drivers? Trying uninstalling and reinstalling kies?

Spose i could. Does it show i sell phones for a living? ;) I'll try tomorrow after work and let you know how I get on. cheers for your help buddy

Ok so i've restored some vodafone firmware (odin is working at last)... what exactly is the kernel? as mine still says root in it and i'm assuming this is a warranty void?

haha true, ironass :D

Phones4uStu, my phone's kernel info said ROOT in the middle, way before i ever rooted my phone, i think its normal. if u flashed ur firmware properly, ur phone wouldve definitely lost root :)
