Return Atrix for Nexus S?

Ponyo

Lurker
So I recently bought an Atrix, and as much I am impressed by it's dual core speed and screen res, i just can't stomach the fact that I have to go through alot of hard steps to load custom ROMs. I'm running on a Mac so it's even harder. The Nexus S was released on AT&T recently and I'm tempted by it's ease to mod and the fact that it will get Ice Cream Sandwich wayyy faster than the atrix will. What are your views on this? Does software win over hardware or the other way around?

I originally bought the Atrix too, but returned it due to the lousy software Motorola uses on the phone which makes it very sluggish and a poor user experience. And while most of the hardware in the Atrix is good, it has issues with the most important part - the screen. It looks fine when viewed directly, but it washes out badly at slight angles. When I returned mine a week later, the store staff told me half of the Atrix's they sold had also been returned...not good at all.

So I waited a bit and bought the Nexus S when it came out and I'm much happier with it than the Atrix. If Motorola dumped their lousy MotoBlur crapware and just ran a vanilla version of Gingerbread, the Atrix would have been a great phone.

That's the case for just about every device maker out there in the android space. I went from a galaxy s to a nexus s, hardware wise they are nearly identical, (aside from some minor changes such as a front camera, no sd slot, and the nfc chip). The nexus is a far superior phone in my opinion, mostly because it has a clean version of gingerbread that hasn't been messed up by any vendor.

No one will ever convince the hardware vendors to run clean software because they would lose their major "differentiators" and branding
