Root Return to stock for warranty

Well here it is...I bought a second One-s and did Super CID and S-off - and in the course of using the phone I have been having lots of trouble with 4G.

T-mobile sent a replacement they say it is a hardware issue, so now I am the one that gets to ask the questions about returning this device to stock for warranty replacement.

I am assuming that I do the process in reverse. IE: S-on, then back to T-MOBO10 CID then set the lock flag. is this correct?

Is there things I should be careful of?
Should I run the 2.35 ruu that the phone was on before? (I ran 3.14 after s-off)

with exception of the new encrypted RUUs(anything JB or newer). with thos, you will need to install the new hboot first, then install the ruu,as the old hboot is not cabable of decryting, unpacking, and flashing the newer ones.

I saw this in the post about how to run an RUU -- Could this be why I am having so much trouble with my 4g - the phone was 2.35 - but after I got Super CID and S-off I ran the ruu for 3.14

sometimes fooling with vital parts of the phones firmware seems to leave it in a somewhat confused state, for lack of a better description. rezound had issues with 4g after s off,and when bouncing around firmwares, and when changing radios without the rest of the fimrware

what i would do before writing the phone off as having hardware prollems is:
1)run most current available ruu
2)factory reset and/or clear storage from hboot menu(right after ruu, stock recovrey must be in place)

see if that fixes your 4g issues. the stock recovery is able to wipe/clean dark corners of the phones filesystem that a custom recovery cannot(so no,you cant simply do a factory reset from twrp or cw)

to answer the other question,s on HAS to be the last thing you change. you can only change cid when s off.

1)change cid
2)reset lock status flag
3)change mid()
4)run ruu
5)s on

the first 3 you could mix up the order, but s on has to be last. you wont need to worry about 4,as mids are not really changed on this phone(other devices folks are starting to)

hope that helps :)

Scotty, in step 3 you mention "Change mid". Not sure I know what that means. I have hosed my mobile data. RUU and returning to S-On not really fixing things. I am contemplating a warranty return but am nervous about the "Relocked" status in the bootloader.

Thanks for your advice.

the mid comment actually didnt need mentioned in this thread,as it is not changeable without an eng hboot, wich to my knowledge does not exist for one s. sorry for the confusion, sometimes i come to threads from email notifications, and do not remember what root forum im in

have you tried doing a factory reset,or clear storage from hboot, with the stock recovery in place? being s off will not change anything that should affect data permantly. sometimes the process itself will confuse the phone, yielding unstable/flakey data, but the above usually fixes that, since those options, with a stock recovery in place, will clean out parts of the phone a custom recovery cannot.

you have shot yourself in the foot by returning to s on. you cannot cahnge relocked to locked while s on.

if you want to be locked again, youll need to re-so ff,then flash the locked zip linked in the OP in recovery.

otherwise, youll just need to take your chances with relocked :(

Thank you sir very much. I did quite a lot of reading and a few attempts. I am back to "stock": "LOCKED" not relocked and no tamper warnings. S-On so I can send it back.

I plan to wait a while without rooting this replacement phone until some time passes with the failed one returned.

Can we get a guide on how to exactly do all these things? I need to do them ASAP if I'm to return my device in time for them not to charge me for my previous device.
