Root return to stock?

I rooted my Desire and installed 2.2 (DeFrost) but I'm not very happy (call me picky... cause I am... it seems a bit buggy, and I miss some things from Sense) - how do I return it to how it came (2.1, with Sense)? In case it matters its a model A8181 (Asian version IIRC, cheap import here into Australia since I'm not with the only phone company which sells it here (Telstra... their version is custom for their 3G network AFAIK) - although the software it comes with is customised for the Asian market, only one English language option and that still gives you options for inputting Asian characters - my point is that while I want it basically the same as it came out of the box, it wouldn't hurt to be able to pick a more appropriate language).

I'm fairly sure that this question has probably been answered before but I am far from a master with the Google-fu and haven't had much luck finding anything - if it has, if you could point me in the right direction that would be great :).

Thanks.

Hi,
This is probably the easiest method of unrooting. Just need to run the appropriate stock RUU.
[HOWTO] Unroot your HTC Desire - Android @ MoDaCo
I have a Telstra Next G Desire, and I was glad to be able to root and load Froyo, just so I could offload their unnecessary files and branding. Maybe you will be happy with the official OTA update to 2.2 when it comes out.

I tried to return to stock by running the installation program from HTC (the first link in this topic). When I start the installation program, everything seems to be working fine, but then an error message appears (in dutch so I tried to translate it):
"Error: Bootloaderversion Error.
The ROM update program can't update the Android phone.
Download the right ROM update program and try again."

Anybody has a solution for this?
I don't know how I could change my bootloaderversion, since nothing on my rooted phone is working. I can't get into market, can't send messages, can't enable HTC Sync...

Please help me! :-)

*edit* Just to be clear, I checked the bootloader version on my Desire and it is 0.80, which is the same version as the stock rom I downloaded from the website above...

Didn't go with a goldcard option as I read that you don't necessarily need one on an unbranded phone.

i was under the impression that to unroot and install a generic RUU, you would need a goldcard...
