Ok, I have somehow managed to soft brick my device as a result of a deviation from this guide. I can't get to the home screen of your stock ICS backup at the moment and a relock of the bootloader leads to the device always booting to the bootloader and a message that reads:

*** Security Warning ***

I did also go back to S-ON in the process (not exactly in the guide)

Flash the stock boot.img

And I can't S-OFF again. Here's the output:

Code:
Please wait....
Checking for updates......
Test 1: Rebooting into bootloader
Waiting for fastboot (8/120)
Waiting
[PL8011000-2.00.0000]
Test 2: Booting device
Waiting for ADB (6/120)
Device detected.....................
[************F***********************************************]

EDIT: Trying with a clean directory

EDIT: That didn't work so I am trying to do this with the ICS version. It's on "Moonshining (10)............"

EDIT: It spit this out: ERROR: Don't drink and shine!!

Ok, help me understand.

With moonshine you ought to have permanent s-off.

Not clear how you got s-on from there, I tried following that thread linked in the op.

If you flashed a different bootloader, pretty sure that you can extract the one you want from the moonshine payload and flash that.

I've seen it for Rumrunner, I'll have to check back for moonshine.

Also - if you locked to do an RUU did you unlock again?

Code:
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3

That gives S-ON

And as for running an RUU, I haven't seen anything anywhere for my particular model

Just so you know. It's an ICS OS backup, not an ICS bootloader backup..

you are already on the JB bootloader you have to run the JB moonshine........

and absolutely NO WHERE in my guide do I ever say to send

fastboot oem writesecureflag 3

also, it was not my guide that managed to soft brick your device, it was the user, BECAUSE YOU DID NOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS

the guide clearly states no skipping steps

I guess I'm going to have to add

NO MAKING UP YOUR OWN STEPS

to the guide

Yes, I realize that you never said to do that. You really don't need to yell at me. You also don't really need to add that text. I didn't skip steps either.

Tl;dr: I'm NOT a noob with rooting and the like. I'm just pointing out that I can't seem to S-OFF again after returning to S-ON

Also, if you read the rest of my posts, it can be implied that my device is no longer soft bricked

Please take that up with the moonshine devs. To soff the jb version you must have the listed hboot version, stock rom, unlocked bootloader and the stock kernel (signed) or it won't work

Think I just figured it out. Needed to disable Fast boot in Settings > Power

EDIT: That didn't do it either. Output:

Code:
Please wait....
Checking for updates......
Test 1: Rebooting into bootloader
Waiting for fastboot (8/120)

[PL8011000-2.00.0000]

If you read the OP it clearly states that he soft bricked his device using my guide......

@palmtree

I'm not yelling, my apologies if you feel that way, but I'm upset that you posted 'I soft bricked my device via "MY" thread'

I am always happy to help others when they run into issues.

it would be nice if others did not post 'I bricked following russellvone's thread'

how do you think that makes me look?

Fair enough

EDIT: clarified the OP to make it clear this was a result of deviating from the guide

And, on topic, I forgot to disable the lock screen...

Alright, back on topic

you must disable all firewalls, even internet ones, or moonshine will not work.

make sure no firewalls are active and I've also noticed if you have Norton installed, even if it is disabled, it won't work

I run Linux, shouldn't be an issue
also make sure on the phone no pass codes are enabled

disable all passcode and screen locks

Ninja'd you with an edit on this. It seems to be working so far
