Has anybody else seen the browser freeze and/or white (non-displayed) web page issues?

Nope, and I have gone to those pages you mentioned. It flew through them, saw flash running, no problems at all. Very odd that you saw a couple duds in that store.

I'm headed to another store in the city this afternoon. I think those devices I saw this morning were messed up in some way by the store reps. Two doing the same thing like that is strange.

What's interesting about it though is that one of the bugs was noted by a reviewer (linked in the beginning of this thread).

Good to see just about everybody here reporting nothing like that.

I just went to the Verizon in Alpharetta GA just down the road from one of Verizon's corporate offices thinking that 4G has got to be good there, right? I had my Incredible since day one (preordered) though am ready to get a 4G smartphone anytime now as I have two extra lines that are able to be upgraded.

I liked the screen size, though it's a good bit thicker than the stock incredible. I have an extended battery and case back on my incredible and it feels much bulkier than my phone. Oh well.

I tried the phone out. It's smooth and quick, but not really not much better than the incredible. I tried a few websites and they were loading at the same time as my phone. I tried playing some flash video off of cnn.com and it came up a lot faster on my phone. I went to speedtest.net from the stock browser and ran the first test. I actually got higher results on my phone. I tried to change servers and run the test again. Then I got the white screen of death. 4G dropped out completely and disappeared from the notification tray. I was expecting a 3G to pop up on the notification area, or at least a 1x but nothing. It was stuck like that for a while.

I played around with the Xoom and Galaxy Tab while the 4G came back. I kept checking it and 4G finally popped back up. I ran speedtest.net again and it blazes through it with a really high rate. I tried to run it again for a third test and 4G dropped out again. I gave up, played with the tablets a little more and left the store without a Thunderbolt.

Does anyone know if the Thunderbolt is supposed to fall back on 3G or even 1 EVDO when there is not a 4G signal?

It definitely should. I get a strong 4G signal here in Boston, but when I went on the subway it automatically downswitched to 3G because that's all they have available underground. (And I tested calling while simultaneously getting data while on 3G only and it worked great!) The 3G performance was very snappy btw, I think the extra processor power and memory was quite noticeable.

As soon as I got back above ground the 4G signal popped back.

Judging the device from the display models - not going to help you at all. Those phones are always jacked-up cause people play with the settings and screw things up.
