I see. I am studying this whole rooting thing with calm before I actually try anything myself. If my friends and family want to do it that´s there business, but I want to basically become a rooting pro, ha ha, that has never rooted. Pathetic I know.Roms are built for a specific device. While some Roms are ported or compiled for multiple devices, each device has it's own version. If you flash a rom meant for another device, it's likely things will be broken and not work correctly. That would be best case. Worst case is that you turn the phone into a paperweight.
.We all started with no knowledge! Nothing pathetic about that. Plenty of good and knowledgeable folks here that will answer all your questions.I see. I am definitely doing my home work and taking my time to learn everything there is to learn and not just about rooting, Android in general. I just find it so exciting. I know that you obviously have to use the right rom for your model and model number, and the right kernel for your device, but is that it. I was looking for information that would basically say something like,¨If you download the right custom rom for your phone and model number, Kernel, this, that and this other, bricking is almost impossible¨. Something like that. It is great to know that there will always be someone here to help, I have to say that I have used various forums and in my opinion this one is my personal favorite, I don´t even use the other ones any more because here I can get an answer within a few hours or minutes in some cases. We all started with no knowledge! As long as you take the time to know what you are flashing to your phone, the risk is pretty minimal. If you run into any problems, ask for help right away and include everything you did that led up to the trouble. Most of the time someone can help you recover pretty easily.
What NOT to do is blindly try to fix the problem yourself by just flashing whatever you can find to flash. We see this all the time, unfortunately, and something that could have been fixed easily becomes a total nightmare.
Also, ALWAYS make a backup via your custom recovery before flashing anything or editing any system files. This is your lifeline. If you break something (we all do); you can easily boot into recovery and restore your phone like nothing happened almost every time.
