Rezound durability?

atljogger

Lurker
Any thoughts on how the Rezound holds up to wear and tear? I am very hard on my phones and I want something that will be durable to scratches and drops (with case). I wanted to like the Razr because of its design features (kevlar, gorilla glass, water-tight, etc.) but I hated the way it felt in my hand. I've read the Rezound does not have gorilla glass but a plastic back is a plus.

Thanks

I can't speak for how it will hold up long-term, but I think the build quality is top notch. It just feels really durable. You're right about the back casing. Seems like it'll hold up pretty well over time. The front glass isn't gorilla glass but I think with a good screen protector, you should be just fine. Honestly, the phones just feels like it was built to last.

It there's a verizon store nearby go check one out. Tap on the glass, feel the weight, and give it a good gripping. I bet it'll surprise you, in a good way.

I checked out the Rezound and it does feel solid. Hopefully there will be a drop test video soon so I can see it in action.

I bet the rezound's glass will hold up just fine. They may have not used the name brand Gorilla Glass but I read in another forum that they still used a generic hardened glass. I bet Corning charges a pretty penny for their name recognized and heavily marketed Gorilla Glass even though the technology can be duplicated by other manufacturers for half the price. I would liken it to the water resistant textile membrane Gortex. I have used off brands with similar membranes and the bottom line is you're still gonna get wet after a few hours. You're just wet and broke in the Gortex suit. Hardened glass is worth it. I never used a screen protector with my Gorilla Glass Epic 4g and even after 2 years of mingling with keys and change in my pocket, it really doesn't have any scratches to speak of. My previous phones were always a mess without a protector. I agree with some other's coments on this phone, I want to like the thin razr because it's sexy but the fact is that the thicker rezound just feels right in my hand. It's the curved back that makes it balanced and not top heavy, something I can live with everyday and not drop. It feels solid. I want to like a bigger sexier screen than a 4.3" inch screen but the rezound strikes that frustrating compromize between the smallish 4" and biggish 4.5 and up screens. I do kinda wish it was Super Amoled because I personally like the very over saturated colors and black blacks of my Epic; but that's ok, the resolution brings something equally great to the table. This phone has some really cool features. Its design isn't groud breaking but it is comfortable and has a few really fantastic specs and features to boot. Sometimes the runway model just doesn't make good marriage material. Funny, most marriages are only two year contracts now anyway ;^)

Put it in an Otterbox Defender, it'll hold up.

As an aside, the Verizon chick I was chatting up the other day was telling me about how many people she's sold the RAZR too, told 'em to get a case, had 'em laugh and say "It's tough, it doesn't need a case," not buy insurance, and then come back in with a broken phone a few days later....
