The rezound doesn't use Gorilla glass (at least I don't think it does). How durable is the rezound to falls?

Are you familiar with the term "mass market buzzword"? Gorilla glass doesn't make your phone impervious to falls, scratches and bullets shot from high caliber sniper rifles. It's like how the term "water resistant" doesn't mean "water proof". Gorilla glass will help slightly. You won't know how "slightly" it is until you've dropped a phone.
My droid 2 took a 2 foot fall getting out of the car and the screen just shattered. Same with my friend's droidx. Doesn't take much to break a phone's screen. What i suggest? Either don't drop your phone or get a case that has some kind of a lip in the front by the screen so when it hits the ground, it's partly falling on the case.
I've heard some people on androidcentral have dropped their rezound and their glass is fine. It just depends on the situation

I wish it had gorilla glass, that does make a big difference . I had a friend with a samsung fascinate and she use to always slam hers on the table to show off the gorilla glass. Of course, it is not indestructible so it did finally crack 1 day but it lasted a long time.
anyway, the day I got my reZound I was in a hurry so I did not put my screen protector on right away and it ended up with some little scratches. So far I have not dropped it and I hope I don't find out how much of a punch it can take.

It fell off of my kitchen counter on day two of owning it. I watched in horror as it fell and the battery cover went flying off. It definitely hit with some force. Even with no case, my screen doesn't have a scratch on it. I'd say it's pretty durable. Of course, no phone is impervious and I was probably lucky.
My short answer is yes it is durable.
FWIW, my take is that regardless what kind of glass it has it is still glass. I agree with CaptainO about marketing hype. All this glass is hardened but regardless who makes it there are always variations within the manufacturing process and two identical phones can have very different responses to a three foot fall onto cement.
My normal precautions include a screen protector and a case, preferably one that is silicone and will absorb shock a bit. Even then I am careful and will never slam it on anything, forget the glass and also consider the circuit connections etc.

Seeing as how I have a unique gift of dropping my cell phones on hard surfaces at high velocities, I cannot go without case. I can say that I used my incredible for 2 years with tons of drops (some were rather harsh), yet I never cracked the screen or even had a scratch. My solution was an Otterbox commuter case, the same style that I've purchased for my Rezound.
As to the "gorilla glass" issue, that is a term coined by one manufacturer. They all use similar polycarbonates for making the screens, so all of them have some level of durability. If you find a rock with the face of the screen, or are unlucky and the phone lands on a corner, all of them will shatter with ease.

"Gorilla Glass" is just a brand name by the manufacturer Corning. Other glass can have the same hardness rating and not have the name "gorilla glass". The whole thing is just a marketing, albeit genius, ploy. They figured out a way to have their product more recognizable so that consumers demand it and they make higher sales. "Gorilla Glass" is not superman and impervious to damage. It will scratch just like all the other tempered glass for phones made by any other manufacturer. It is no better or worse.
All glass placed on cellphones is tempered or hardened. Its mostly a safety thing... but in reality, refusing to place Corning glass on there just means they refused to pay an unnecessary premium price for a brand name. Saves on the budget for other more important features... like the super cool camera and the high PPI rating of the screen.
Just because it doesn't bare the brand name doesn't mean it'll perform worse (or better).

Gorilla glass, which is a trade mark name is more scratch resistant, harder than average glass. That doesn't mean they own the rights to scratch resistant glass or that it absolutely won't scratch. It's probably just as prone to shattering though. I tossed my droid x (accidentally ) about ten feet. It landed glass down on rough blacktop, bounced a few times before finally sliding to a stop. It dinged the bezel on all four corners but didn't damage the glass at all. It's partly phone design but mostly just luck. That said it's screen did eventually get a hairline scratch somehow. I carried it alone in a pocket and was careful so no idea how it got scratched especially after it had been launched into the ground and didn't scratch.
Oh most phones are using pretty sturdy glass now but just remember it is all a game of angles and chances. If your phone falls cased or not, gorilla glass or not if its just right that screen will shatter. Sure a case will help lessen the chance of it happening but it is all about how it its.

I've now owned two phones with Gorilla Glass (OG Droid, the first phone to use it, and a Droid Charge), and now a Rezound without.
It took a long time of being carried in my pocket with keys and change and a knife before the OG Droid showed some minor marks. The Charge, which I carried around for about 8 months, is pretty much spotless. The Rezound, which I've had for about two months, has major scratches all over the glass. Bleah. I've gotten so used to not needing screen protectors (I used one for about a week when I first got my old Droid, then abandoned it--not necessary); I guess I have to start using them again.
I don't think that Gorilla Glass is dramatically more impervious to shattering, but it is very much more scratch resistant than other screen materials (or at least that used by HTC for the Rezound). I've got empirical data right here.
BTW, other than that, and some of the quirky/ugly/just different aspects of Sense, the Rezound is one of my all-time favorite things.

I dropped my phone from a table that I was eating at outside onto cement. Other than a ding in the battery cover, it was fine.
My brother, who owns a Razr MAXX and has the Gorilla Glass, dropped his from about the same height and it spidered much like a windshield does.
So, it all depends on the phone like someone else who replied. No two are made the same. I did have a screen protector on my Rezound, but no case.
I love this phone though. Coming from a Droid X, I thought I might have been disappointed, but have been nothing but pleased.
The Dre Beats are awesome as well. I got my phone for $100 on Leap Day, so the Beats were like an added bonus since they retail for $100.

No idea how durable the screen is... just like my Incredible, and my other HTC phones before that, my solution is pretty simple: (1) I don't drop my phone, and (2) I don't put it in my pocket. Got a Seidio face-in holster to carry it. No case. I hate cases. 7 years of smartphone ownership, and never a ding. I must just be careful

I've dropped mine quite a few times on cement/asphalt getting out of my truck. Also dropped it a few time onto my hardwood floors at home. All from about 3-4 feet. No problems so far. I do use a Otter Box Defender case though, so I assume that helps. I am rough on phones since I am a truck driver/heavy equipment operator. My Incredible really took a beating but never broke. YMMV
I have a DX and I am highly considering upgrading to a Rezound...I love my DX but I think I am ready to move on as i have an upgrade to get a Rezound for 49.99.....reading what you have said makes me feel better about moving on because my DX had been nothing but short of Outstanding. Anyone else have a DX and move on to a Rezound and have a similar experience?

I started with the DX, then got a DX2 after a few returns due to hardware issues. I loved both especially the DX2 being dual core. I upgraded a few days ago to the rezound and can't say i regret it. Stock HTC software on the rezound runs very smooth. Where as it took flashing CM7 on my DX2 to get it to run smooth. Motoblur sucks ass. And the display is way better on the rezound. I'm sure i'll still flash another on the rezound eventually, but for now it was worth upgrading for $50($0 after my upgrade credit was included).
I just moved from the DX. Man could that phone take a beating. I choose the Rezound because several people reported it could with standa fall pretty good, bootloader unlock, and the price for a top notch 4G phone. Still waiting to root. I would like a permanent recovery like the DX's sbf file recovery option. From what I read and understand, s-off should bring it.

I work in construction, never babied a phone, (bb storm, og Droid, X, X2, rezound), and after a month with the rezound, I have a noticeable scratch on screen. I DO think gorilla glass is more scratch resistant, can't speak to shattering issue.....never shattered one.....YET! Lol But if this F'ing ICS doesn't come soon, I might have a post about that! Lol

Since I live only a few miles from Corning, I prefer the Gorilla Glass name. I'm a local manufacturer junkie. But keep in mind that the actual formula for Gorilla Glass is from the 1950s, and back then there wasn't much use for it. Since then, many manufacturers have been making a tempered glass of their own. But Corning, realizing the competitive nature of the market, is working harder than ever to make a superior glass. And I'll bet there's a lot of funding coming from Apple and/or Samsung to develop "the perfect glass."
My Eris smashed after the third drop, but it landed on the corner of a machine, face down, no cover or protector. That happened before HTC started claiming that they used Corning's glass. My Rezound has been dropped a few times with and without the case, and it's holding up just fine... for now.

I broke my screen Friday. I'm disappointed to find out that HTC doesn't cover it under warranty. I guess it just fell in exactly the wrong way. At the moment, I'm still using it, until I figure out what to do about a replacement. I'm slowly starting to notice the cracks as I slide my finger over them, though.
I knew the Rezound wasn't going to be as durable as my old Eris, but I probably dropped my Eris 20-30 times, once, bouncing down a flight of stairs, with little damage at all to show for it. I guess I'm paying for being so careless with the Eris...or something.
