Root Rezound rooting problem, sigh!

Stuck on step 11 for unlocking the bootlloader- i used the HTC site for the instruction.

I really enjoy your forum here and it's instructions to unlock the bootloader but I am stuck!
I am getting to the end of the process to unlock my HTC Rezound and Root it when I am stuck. can't figure out what is the issue. This is where I am at ;

I just got my '' The key to unlocking your HTC Device '' email with the Unlock_Code.Bin attachment. I click to download it ( with Firefox browser) and it says that it will open in Notepad? - is this the correct program to use for this?
Then I download the file, put that file into my created file where my fastboots are in, I run the CMD unlock code Bin. Nothing happens. It just will say that it is not found and then it just displays nothing when I try it again. I get a few different responses in the CMD and then nothing.

it seems like I am '' saving or downloading the Unlock Code Bin file from the HTC email in the wrong format or way? When I go to save the file from the HTC email should I use a specific format, notepad, WORD, PDF, so when I copy it into my fastboots file, it will be recognized by CMD when I run the fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin command? It is fairly obvious that it is not in a format that can be recognized. The step 13 '' unlock bootloader '' screen has never blessed the screen of my phone...yet.

I hope that I am not re - posting a question that was answered 1000 times. I just want this phone rooted.

Thank you in advance for the help.

You need to save it as "unlock_code.bin" without the quotes. Otherwise cmd won't know what you're looking for.

Other than that, you'd have to post your command line logs for us to see.

you also need to make sure you save it to,or move it to, your adb/fastboot folder.

if youre using the guide here,it would be to your "mini-adb_vigor" folder.

if youre following htcdev directions,it will be to your "android" folder

hope that helps :)

I am still in no root hell. I am using the HTcdev site and step 9, right where I get the unlock code comes to my gmail. I go to save it and it will only let me save it as a media file. The format that the unlock code bin gets saved at is in either notepad, WORD or even a media file. Maybe I need to change my default programs that my downloads use ? Whatever format the unlock code gets saved as, media file, notepad, WORD is not being read when I run the flashboot unlock CMD to unlock it.

the attachedment is what happends when I go to save the unlock code email.

when i get them i think msn saves them as an "attachement" wich has not been a prollem. the file is still "unlock_code.bin"

can you not right click on the attachement and "save as" so you can pick the destination and file type?

Here is where I am now. I am at step 9 and I am getting this error with the final command to unlock to bootloader.

Here is the CMD line where I am stuck at -

fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

C:\Andriod>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: 0.003s

C:\Andriod>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin.
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
FAILED (command write failed (Invalid argument))
finished. total time: 0.001s

This is so frustrating.

These are the 4 items that are in my C/Android folder from where I am trying to unlock the bootloader with this CMD -

fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

Hopfully you can read the attachment

Do you have the phone in fastboot? If you're in hboot, the command won't work.

Aside from that, are you using win 8,USB 3.0,or a USB hub? Make sure there is nothing running that can comuicate with the phone(htc sync, pda net, easy tether, even I tunes). Try different USB cables and ports.

It worked! Thank you! I almost fell out of chair. I had to update to the latest version of HTC sync, which installed the latest HTC drivers. Also, I shut down everything that you mentioned that could interfere with the phone. I even disabled the internet.

Finally! My phone has been unlocked!

Now what? Where do I go to find out how to root and move forward with rooting?

Now, I am at the point where I flashed the recovery, installed superuser and now, I am on the last step, to in stall the Zip file from the SD Card.

I do not see the option in the recovery menu. There are the only option that are displayed when I click on '' choose zip from sdcard -

../
Andriod/
Dcim/
Download/
LOST.DIR/
date/

- also, I just saw with the Superuser app, the binary is outdated but not able to update from the superuser app due to not being root.

So close...
Help please!

Sounds like maybe you have put the zip file onto internal storage instead of the sd card.

I am still at the last part of the root. I am not sure where i went wrong. I am not able to get the Superuser file to the SD card. I still does not come in listed in the recovery menu as listed above.

Should I start over or flash the recovery again or maybe I did not flash the superuser app at all?

what do you mean "flash the superuser app"?

if you attempted to install the app from the play store, that doesnt do you any good,as the play store is not able to install the app in system/app and it is not able to install the matching binary. if this is what you did,go ahead and delete it.

basically,you just need to:
-plug in the phone. select disc drive
-windows explorer windows should open up for your internal storage, and your sd card.
-drag the superuser file from your pc to your sd card. make sure you dont accidentally put it on internal storage.
-eject the phone from the PC(right click on the drive that reperesnts your sd card, click eject) and change back to charge only.

at this point you can go back to recovery and look for your superuser file. hopefully that works for you :)

It worked. I am amazed that I was able to get this thing rooted. THANK YOU for the help everyone and Scotty!

Now, I am half way there, I have accomplished one of my goals for rooting of obtaining Wi Fi Tether. I can finally take advantage of the unlimited data plan from verizon. That is just too cool!

Now, one last thing that I want to do with the Rezound. I hate Sense. I would like to '' disable '' it or '' remove it '' - but from what I read, it is not '' deletable '. I'm ok with that, I just would like to know how to '' turn off HTC Sense '' and install a better OS like Nova.

Do I need to proceed with S off ? - oh, if I were to have S Off on my phone, can I freely delete bloatware?

Thank you again all!

well crap,i replied to this once and it seems it has become lost in cyber space

in a nutshell, you can eliminate htc sense and the htc keyboard, just make sure your replacements are in place prior to freezing or deleting them.

you can eliminate bloat now if you flash a rom that contains an insecure kernel.

heres the best way to remove bloat and unwanted files:
-make a backup in recovery!
-freeze just a few files using titanium backup,or equivalent
-run the phone a few days.
-if no issues from the froze files, you can delete them(or just leave them frozen)
*repeat this process until the bloat is gone.

a nice alternative to eliminating sense is to simply install an AOSP rom like cm 10 or 11.

s off is well worth the effort,IMO. you no longer need to do "the wire trick" more info here: [S-OFF]Rumrunner S-off works for Rezound!!! - xda-developers

sorry for the shore response,im off to work!
