Rezound Wifi Surprise

Today I installed a new router that supports the 5GHz band. I configured the SSIDs separately for 5GHz and 2.4GHz. Only expecting to see the 2.4GHz SSID, I was surprised that, unlike my older laptop, it was able to connect to the 5GHz side... And I must say my connection is much more solid, probably from less interference here in the apartment. I hadn't noticed anything about this related to the Rezound before. BTW, I also tested my old Incredible just to see (2.4GHz only)

Damnit, I was expecting a "I had my Rezound Wifi hotspot on and my neighbor was connecting to my phone downloading illegal barnyard animal porn and the FBI came knocking on my door at 3:00am this morning" kind of post... :p

Mine has not gone to the 5 band yet? I dint see any options to change the bands on the phone
There is no options setting for this. The only way you'd know is if you connected to a 5GHz access point. Even then, the phone won't tell you the mode is 5GHz, it can only be deduced from the fact it works with it.

Update: Wifi Analyzer in the Market will allow you to check signal strength of 5GHz channels in its settings. They are not enabled by default (in the application) .

First, of course, you need a dual band router to transmit at 5Ghz. And, as is the case with my Linksys, it helps to name the connection something that would indicate its on the 5Ghz band....in my case the name is the same as my 2.4Ghz connection with '5' tacked on.
