Help Ridiculously Long Wake Time.. anyone else?

I have exactly the same issue you guys have (8-10 sec wait time on average). Returned the phone to orange (Swiss provider), they updated the software. Problem has reappeared after a month. Really annoying. Have no extra memory inbuilt.

Evidently the need for an update wasn't the problem. Return it again. (They get to know who'll just accept a "non-repair" repair, and who'll give them a problem if they don't get it right. It costs them money every time you bring it in.)

I had a similar issue with my Galaxy S3, but it not only took a long time to light up the screen, but it also refused to respond to key touch input after it did. you'd hit things, expect an app not responding dialog, keys would light up, animations (signal bars, clock) would work but not respond to touch at all. eventually, it would 'catch up' and start doing it (although it would go through your other attempts to do things all at once probably launching apps etc)

the fix? removing the SD Card. what happened was a faulty reader was making Media Scanner go into an infinite loop.

i have not had this issue on the S4 or Note 3 though. my Note 10.1 sometimes did it, same thing the S3 did, took awhile to come to life, but felt frozen, later catching up and going on. only no SD card in the slot. swapped chargers and fixed. Samsung's chargers are bad about being faulty. at least in my experience. my Note 10.1 was fine and the issue would only happen after pulling it from the charger each day to use it. the charger was also so hot you would burn your hand touching the brick that plugged into the wall. it seemed a bad fire hazard so i tossed it and used the cable with an old BlackBerry brick and it works fine.

My track record with faulty Samsung chargers didn't begin there though. my S3's charger froze my Note 3, not the same way the S3 did but i tried another brick and it worked fine. my budget Galaxy Precedent outright refused to charge its own battery and sent out a notification 'Unable to charge non-supported battery, see user manual'. again, tossing the Samsung charger plug and using another one from my Nexus worked fine.

I have a new Note 3 (AT&T) and while initially things were good after I installed an SD card (32 GB) I have started noticing lags. Sometimes it's 2-3 seconds before the screen will turn on, and sometimes 1 MINUTE before it'll respond to keys from sleep mode.
I did notice each time the lag was significantly greater than 5 seconds that the problems were:
a. An app update was being installed
b. The app update was being scanned by either Lookout or Avast (or both)

Any suggestions other than removing the SD card?
Thanks!
Sesh

the class number might also have infuence too. mine was a class 4 and i had apps installed there that likely slowed my S3 down.

I had the same issue. on pressing the home button it was 10-15 seconds to wake up. I tried taking the sd card out (because of this thread, after trying many things) and it started waking up right away, Interestingly once I added the cards back it is still waking up quickly. So a temporary solution could be to remove and re-add the memory card. Would still like to know what the root cause it though

Lock screen freeze seems to be standard Samsung fare lately. My Note 3 is doing it and I got an LG G3 to replace it. If I wanted daily or weekly reboots I'd use Windows.

My note 3 has had the same problem --between 5-7 seconds to wake up every time; it was driving me crazy. I called att and their tech support had never heard of the problem. So they connected me with Samsung tech support and the agent had not heard of the problem either. He spoke to a supervisor and came back and then acknowledged this is a known problem at Samsung but there is currently no fix for it. Perhaps a future update but no promises. Basically, they told me I had to live with it. I've tried every possible software solution (except rooting the phone) --turning off all transitions, etc... nothing worked. Then I remembered it didn't seem to have the problem the first time I turned it on when unboxing; so I popped off the back cover and pulled my micro sd and IMMEDIATELY it started turning on quickly again. The problem was my sd card. It is a Lexar 600x 32gb (the fastest one I could find on the market). While the card does work, for some reason my phone doesn't seem to access it well (I had even reformatted it within the phone). I went to Best Buy and bought a Sandisk Ultra 32gb and it works perfectly --no lag; problem solved.

Damn!I recently got a Note 4 and started having this problem. I thought I had a defective phone which sucked since I have been loving it so far. Took or my SD and boom back to super fast! Thanks for the help!

WOW- Glad I found this forum. I have a Note 4 and from day one it was slow to wake up. Tried everything -remove apps/ reset/ wipe. Same issue. Today I removed the SD card- now it is very fast- what I expected from this phone. Thanks!

I have this same problem.
I bought a Sammy 64GB XC1 sdcard and have had it in my phone for several months with no problem.
A week or so it started showing this problem with 10 to 15 second wake up times and non-responsive to keys for a while after that, especially when I attempt to wake it back up shortly after it going to sleep.
I read this thread and decided to take it out and whalla, it's zippy again.
I put it back in the phone and explore the card and all looks fine. I then took the card out and put it into my new Windows 7 :-( HP Ultrabook several times and all it says is that the card needs to be formatted....

The card does have in excess of 40GB on it in which it might have recently crossed the 32GB capacity boundary, and maybe the Note 3 has hosed the format somehow but can still browse it where windows throws up it's hands?

I will try and get off the card what I can with my linux box at home (which also seems to read it - no the card is not ext3/4 formatted...) then reformat it in the phone, which what I did when first bought the card just in case, and load it back up with what I can get off of it.

Update:
Shortly after posting the original yesterday, the phone started doing it again. Even pulled the card out and it's doing it.
Next step is a wipe |-(
If that doesn't work then off to Sprint I go. Sometimes the wake times are as long as 30 seconds and even then some apps are unresponsive to input for even longer. Good things is that it seems to only happen if I close the cover (put it to sleep) then remember I forgot to do something and try to wake it right back up again. Once sleeping for a while, there not so much of a problem.
Must be doing something every time it goes to sleep that is not working.... Sounds like a good time for malware to do it's checkin and report keylogging.....

Downloaded a few highly rated anti-virus and malware scanners (if there is such a thing) and none of them reported any problems.

Thank you so much. It helped me!! My card was causing all problem. Lagging was much more severe then yours

I don't want to write a long story about how did I find the solution by trying various things in my phone, the final solution which helped me was to DISABLE 'Android System Webview' from currently running ALL Apps (you can easily find it in Settings). It's latest update, which was arount 120 MBs, started causing lag after it got installed when I performed 'Factory Reset' on my phone. I am not sure what this app does but disabling it is not causing any problem so far. Check if it helps you.
Those who removed the memory card and felt the problem was resolved, try my solution and let me know if it works with your card in.
