Help Ridiculously Slow Droid

Joe Levy

Lurker
I have Motorola Droid (A855) with Verizon service. I am running the most current OS version 2.2.1 and it is unbearably slow when I try to go from using an application back to my home screen. The home screen will pop up but NONE of the icons will populate the screen for sometimes up to 30 seconds. And I find myself pulling the battery out several times a day to reset the phone. I have done a factory reset, installed 3 different task killers, removed 3 different task killers, moved all possible downloaded apps to the SD card, removed ALL extra applications, had VZ send me 3 replacement phones under their replacement program, and have gone bald with all of the frustration. It doesn

First off, dont use ANY task killers. They arent needed, and make your phone slower. Second, try a factory reset one more time. This time, install apps you want one by one, and wait a day to see if that affects your phone.

I am not sure...my boyfriend has a motorola droid from europe he is running on AT&T and his is unbearably slow as well, but he had overclocked it and i think that helped a bit but he is still having the same issues...I'll talk to him some more and see if I can figure anything else out!! Good luck!!

Let the phone manage itself.
Mine is stock and it runs just fine.

It WILL slow down when an update is installed. Or if I try to do too many things at once.
Running multiple task killers is not helping.

I have loaded my phone with tons of stuff, but other than updates/installs it very rarely slows down.

I facotory reset once more and the only app I've downloaded is google books. It ran great the first 2 days and now it is showing signs of slowing down again......

Could the fact that one of my email accounts comes through MS Exchange cause undesirable slowness?

Absolutely. 2 things come to mind:

1) the number of messages in your trash - IIRC, the DROID will not delete them directly.

2) The way it syncs - if it is syncing a lot then it means it is DLing all those emails and storing it in cache - which literally kills working RAM.
