Help Ringer/ Speaker Issues

Legal

Newbie
This past few weeks, my phone's speaker won't work for hours at a time. The ringer/ speakerphone/ music doesn't work at all. It eventually has been coming back after waiting long enough. I've tried re-booting the phone, but that hasn't helped.

I figure it's nothing to worry about too much since it keeps coming back eventually, but I'm worried it may happen in the middle of the night, because I use my phone as my alarm for work. Anyone else encountered anything like this, and if so, do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Moving thread to the troubleshooting section. I have never faced this particular problem.

Are you using an automatic task killer? Those can cause critical functions of the handset to act weird or not work at all.

I am, but I always have since I've had this phone (roughly 18 months) and haven't encountered this problem until last week.

Try disabling it and see if the problem rectifies itself. I know you said you have been using it for a while, but stranger things have happened.

Since Android 2.1, app memory and background running has been handled very well by the operating system. The use of an automatic task killer is really not necessary anymore. It ends up wasting battery because it is constantly killing processes that just restart seconds later, only to be killed again. It can also cause the weirdness you are experiencing with your handset.
