Ringtones for Texts...

Newbie
i downloaded a few ringtones & i wanted to use a few of them for texts. however when i go to assign the ringtone to a text, it's nowhere to be found. it this something that i can do, or am i stuck w/ the "generic" ringtones that are on the hero?

Download an app called "Rings Extended" free of the Android Market , Make sure the MP3. ringtones is on the phone {e.g on the SD card}

Now go to the messaging app -> Menu -> Settings -> Ringtone -> Select "Rings extended" when prompted -> Music -> Select the mp3 you want as the ringtone -> Done

cool i'll check it out. many thanks!

believe you can do it by opening up a thread from a contact, then hit menu>settings>notifications and it sets it for that contact. Whereas, if you hit settings from the start page where all the contact threads are seen, it creates the same settings for all texts received.

You set the default notification sound from the start page that shows the threads.

Open a thread, click on the person/gear in the upper right to take you to a dialog where you can set Notification Settings, Bubble Settings and Signature Settings for that contact.

This is great, but there is an easier/better (imo) way than this. I'm a fan of letting the phone do what it can without downloading extraneous applications. The OS has folders (that we can't easily access) called "notifications", and "ringtones". If you put your sounds in folders on your SD card with these same names, then reboot your device (sometimes not necessary), your sounds will show up on the default lists.

I believe you will still need to enable the SD sounds checkbox.
