Help Ringtones - go easy on me!

I am certain this has been asked before, lots of times and I've searched within the forum and can't find a specific (easy!) answer. I am new to the Captivate. New to Android. New to a Smartphone! lol I'm not real tech savvy (so people want to know why I got an Android, lol).

I downloaded a ringtone from ringophone. It is in my sounds folder. I moved it there after reading in another thread. But it still is not coming up in my ringtone choices. Actually, what I originally did was click on the menu button within the ringtone and apparently set it as my ringtone, it was an option, but it is not working.

Can someone help me out or direct me to an existing thread.

thanks for pointing me the right way. I moved the ringtone file into the sd folder but it's still not showing up as a choice for a ringtone. :(

Ok! I seriously sound ignorant here and I guess I am, but do I need to buy this SD card? I bought this phone used and it doesn't have one.

No, the captivate come with 16 GB of storage built in and most of it is separated from the system as an SD card even though it's not removable. You could add another SD card which isn't a bad idea because it's removable and readable , for things like Photos and documents.

I don't have my Captivate with me (my Nexus1 is my work phone) but if nobody else answers, I'll give you the exact steps when I get home.

I have googled this all over and what I have done seems to be correct, only that I realized this morning that the ringtone is not an mp3 file but rather a mpga file. What is this? And do you think this is why it's not setting as the ringtone?
