was I a victim or the cause?....

last week... I was trapped in traffic on the main Freeway due to an accident.
we were moving about 1-2 mph (stop and go) and I was in the far left lane. Which was moving faster than the other 3 lanes!
and I did not feel like keeping my car close to the car in front of me.
every time I relax a bit (playing with radio or my phone).. the gap between me and the car in front would get bigger ( 2 -3 car lengths). I would move forward to close the gap as needed...no rush.. no place to go

that pissed off the car behind me! they would honk and I would see their hands in the front windshield fly all over the place.
at first I could not believe that person was so upset at me.. or was it someone else honking at something else?
so I tested it out. I let a gap build up to 2 cars.. and sure enough, the idiot started to honk and wave their hands all over the place.
I could not believe this.. why are they getting upset? where the hell can I go? why rush to the back of the other car? to only slow back down or stop?
I was confused, because I could not decide to Laugh or get angry. :P

this went on for 30 mins.. about 3 miles. LOL
finally saw the accident and the end was near.. and I was being harassed the whole time. so I just wanted to give a little back.. and stopped my car 100 yrds from the accident. was going to get out and walk back to see if there was anything I can help them with.

the person behind me stuck their head out the window !
crap it was a middle aged woman! what can I do? Don't want her to call 911 on a man attacking her!
don't need this.. so I started towards the accident and pull right into the passing lanes.

She sped around me.. towards the working police and firemen..
and yelled at me.. "GROW THE **** UP!"
really? me? nothing to do but laugh....

Ahhh, DC is a mess for drivers (and don't get me started on those from Northern Virginia). Thankfully, my wife does the bulk of driving so I don't have to get involved. Well, I do try to calm her down when folks are being idiots when she freaks out. But I also itch at honking for those who don't move within 3sec of a green light. :)

ok so here is my story:

i was driving on a road going slightly faster than the posted speed limit. the car in front of me for no reason started to brake at a faster rate than i was expecting. i had to swerve to pass the car to avoid hitting it. now granted i should have payed more attention to what was in front of me, but i saw no reason for the other car to brake like that.

after another few blocks the guy speeds up and then makes a lane change in front of me and proceeds to slow down again. this time no slamming of the brakes just starts to slow down......i was like WTF!!!!! and proceed to pass him again as i wanted to go at least the posted speed limit. i eventually passed him for good as i did not want to go at it with this guy.

after a mile on the same road, i passed an intersection in which a police car turned onto the same road. a block or two later i was getting pulled over by the same police car. the policeman then tells me that i was tailgating a car. apparently the same car i was having issues with grabbed the policeman's attention and told him to pull me over.

i explained to him that it was not my fault at all and that it was the previous cars fault for starting this. he told me that since he did not see it that he can't give me a ticket, but that we would have to settle this in court. i then told the cop that was fine by me.

he then leaves and talks to the other car about going to court. the cop back telling me that i do not have to go to court and that i was free to go. what really made me angry was the fact that the cop then tells me about road rage and that i need to slow down and be calm when i drive. he then tosses my drivers license back into the car rather than handing it to me. its not fair that the cop choose to take the side of the other car and not me. he said that usually when another cars flags a cop that it usually is because the other car is guilty of something.

now i did not do anything to provoke this guy. i was not excessively speeding nor was i tailgating. i did not have road rage as i was not honking, cursing, or anything like that. i'm not sure what i did to provoke this guy.

anyways i will stop this rant and say to you dan that you did nothing wrong. the world is full of crazy people that we have to deal with from time to time.

My commute to work when I lived in Maryland was about an hour and a half, on a good day. I took back roads and there were a few passing areas along the way. Mostly 45 to 50 MPH speed limit. One morning I was going about 55, not fast enough for the individual behind me. They were swerving left to right, high beams, honking, etc. I kept my pace, and tried to ignore it. Didn't work. I ended up behind an explorer who was going about 50, still over the speed limit mind you. One of the passing zones was approaching, and I saw the car behind me go for it really early. So I cut him off and slowly passed the Explorer, whilst the other car is blaring their horn and high beams. I would not let them pass for anything, it was about principle now. Eventually they passed me in a no passing zone, and I let them go.

Got to the first red light in Rockville, looked in my rear view mirror, my boss was in the explorer!! He got his new project vehicle the day before, and I didn't know.

I was in a world of trouble. This whole episode happened in a company vehicle.

Cool thing about the whole situation, my boss didn't give a crap about the vehicle. He was worried about me getting hurt in an accident and my kids suffering. He then proceeded to give my keys back, which I deposited on his desk upon entering the office.

By far the best boss I've ever had. I miss Mr. Dennis dearly. :o
