Help "roam-only" capability

i to raned into that problem i did this make sure USB debugging is turned on and push ##3424# in your phone keypad, phone goes in some type of program mode then,Plug your phone in via USB and install the diagnostics drivers when prompted,i saved folder on desktop and browsed to the folder and it installed... try that and see how that work out, i have windows xp n thats what worked for me,If you've installed the drivers correctly, you should be able to go to Device Manager in control panel and see it registered as a COM port/USB diagnostic device..

I actually got it to work finally. But then realized in order to get it back to normal you actually have to reverse the process with the software on the PC...not at all convinient.

Should have read that before I started lol.

But it is promising that maybe a dev could make an app or even a toggle widget.

Ok it appears that forcing the Hero to roam is simple however the results r pointless cuz u can't send texts or make phone calls so this must be some different type of setting cuz normally when ur phone automatically roams u can at least still make calls and send receive texts. Anyhow for those who want to experiment u go to settings>wireless controls>mobile network settings>switch NAM>NAM 2. It is definitely roaming as the phone's status confirms it but it's weird that no data works not even 1x :( When I tried making a call on roaming it said my phone was not registered and gave me an option to register it. Interesting...

I just switched from Verizon. I get 4 bars where I barely get a signal with Verizon. Both my Wife and I have noticed that inside of buildings is much better signal strength than Verizon. I have a customer way out in the boonedocks that previuosly has been a dead spot for me. I am maxed out with the hero. I realize that Big V has the overall coverage, but not in Colorado. Roaming is not an advantage here.

I remember when a company was trying to sell us a cell phone a few years back. We told them that if they could make a call from our driveway, we'd buy their phone and their plan.
The guy drove in, turned around, and left lol.

Thankfully, service has improved a bit. I can now send a text from inside my house, and with a non-smartphone, can get service inside the house and call out. If I go into the driveway, I can talk on any phone using Verizon or Sprint, it's pretty nice lol.

man you guys are cryptic as hell... this is better than tracking down satanic masons behind the implosion of western society and the imminent implementation of the nwo under Lucifer's seed...

where the heck do I find instructions on obtaining the MSL code for a sprint hero.... ok ok ... I googled.. I chased down a thousand rabbit holes, I installed several apps and who knows how much spyware in the chase.. thank you titanridah for linking the files.. now those apps require the bloody holy grail.. the bloody MSL code.. good grief.. the Chicoms didn't have this much trouble stealing our nuke designs

really guys.... please spoon feed just this once more.... I promise I will be good ;-)

You could have avoided all that VOODO you do by just calling Sprint Tech and asking for it... lol, but I wouldn't tell them it's because you want to force roaming.

See the section/thread regarding the delayed ringing issue or Slot Index Cycle.

Happy Trails
:)

wodin6 I remember you! in the fourth grade... you always called me Willy and made fun of my k-mart jeans.... man.. can't we all just get along? thanks for letting me look on your paper cooolone2.. you are a life saver... gee..guess I have become them... what a sense of dependency and entitlement... I have become hopelessly mainstream.. uggg ... the pain, the pain... I cast myself upon the flaming pyres of reason and rationality... gone forever are the twin pillars of divine inspiration and self-determination.. oh man... the pain of self-awareness... oh no... I have seen secular enlightenment and I am he.. the end is nigh...

maybe they are getting smarter.... got the code (thanks!) was able to read the phone and make changes as outlined at xda... however, pressing Write to phone seemed to write then popped up this NV Write Errors box with NV Item NV_UE_IME_I with Status NV_READONLY_S :(

hey.... it seems to be working! roaming... rebooted... went back in and read with qpst and the settings I selected are still there whooooo hoooooooo!!!! I can now use the phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my home is under a Verizon tower and apparently at the edge of sprint... it would ring on sprint but drop EVERY call after about four seconds..uggg then I would have to cusp the phone in my hands and curl my body around it then it would start to roam and THEN I could return a phone call!! so much easier the other phones when I could just hit roam only when I was at home!!

thanks guys... thanks a million

Hello,

Has anyone figured out how to force roam a sprint android phone yet? My wife and I have a Hero and a Moment. We even have the consent of our local Sprint provider, they have offered to pay if we get any roaming charges. Their solution is to get my wife into a windows device but what fun is that? With all the devs out there someone has to know how to do this. Any modifications would be ok...I would also be willing to pay for this option. I think there would be many 2.1 users that would be happy to at least get signal.:)

MSL stands for master security lock or something... just call #2 then press the menus for ONE, then press FOUR, then FIVE, then ZERO, then ignore the 888-211-4727 number, (you might try this if the rep doesn't get it to you through this method), then wait for someone to pick upt, when they do just tell them your phone is asking for the MSL code before it will update, act like you have no clue what MSL is and they will gladly give it to you. WRITE this down, they have have given you a onetime code, or the actual MSL number, either way this code is unique to every phone and is how you get to the submenus they don't want you to see.... this is how i turned tethering on for my instinct lol, once in the menus it was litterally turning it from off to on :D

I just got a Hero and it is my first phone that can't force roam. I am not following this whole thread. Can you provide a step-by-step of making this phone roam--from start to finish? Apparently the one guy was successful but I'm a little telephonically challenged. Thanks!

Don't take this the wrong way but why would you buy a phone that you have force it to roam to be able to use it.

Sprint will also charge you for data over 250 MB while roaming.

Bump on this old thread.
Sprint will NOT charge you, as I had been using "Roam Only" on my Q9c for the entire past 2.5 years. I just upgraded to the Transform.

Thank you Mr.Greg for this app, I JUST got my Transform rooted this morning, and it works GREAT!!!

PS- I don't think 4 bucks is enough for all the money this saves people buddy.
