Roaming issues... Data roaming is free right?

It was my understanding that anyone with an EVO was moved to an upgraded account as required.

Incorrect?

That's what I thought and on my plan it shows unlimited roaming, for voice only I assume. But you know what they say about assuming. ;)
America - Roaming Included

So if that is truly the case, why doesn't the data roaming show unlimited like the texts, data, etc. show?

This is what I get, and in RED no less lol:
Additional used
50KB
Additional charge
$0. 00

This is very confusing. Why include it at all on our account if it is unlimited? Bah Sprint! They make things so confusing sometimes. :(

There is NO 5GB data limit on an Evo, unless you have the wifi hotspot plan. Nor on any phone used with an Everything, or Everything Data plan. The 5GB limit applies to older plans (like F&F), to broadband modems, and to 3G tethering plans.

As far as voice roaming, if you read your TOS (something more people should do, btw) you'll see that while roaming in the US is free, you're limited to not using more than half your voice minutes while roaming. If your roaming minutes exceed your non-roaming minutes, Sprint has the right, under the TOS, to terminate your roaming plan.

DATA ROAMING IS NOT EXACTLY FREE ON THE 'EVERYTHING' PLANS.

Although Data may be unlimited on the Sprint Network, it has a 300 MB cap on roaming data. At least on the Everything Data Family - with Any Mobile, Anytime.

I couldn't find this written anywhere, but this was told me my one of their Customer Service Reps. On a later conversation, when they started telling me what my account covered, after another conversation, I asked about the 300 MB cap, she didn't know, checked with her supervisor, and came back on and said YES, it has a 300 MB cap on roaming Data.

Not if you have the Evo. It doesn't apply to us. That $10 a month premium charge means unlimited. Of course, their idea of unlimited is 5gb per month. As long as you don't spend more than 80% of your time roaming, you've got nothing to worry about. I have two lines on my plan that are roaming 100% of the time, but because the other three lines rarely roam, it's fine. I verified this with corporate.

I think this is just simple brane-dead accounting software:

1. grab and display all information concerning headset use, make that plain vanilla to fit every phone/plan on print output, so that software won't break doing anything fancy

2. print out actual charge associated with usage on bill and web, even if zero - put it red so people paying extra know what the extra is before calling us, leave it red for those with it included so they can go, wow! included! - and because the software just deal in exceptions, because:

3. never mind actual charge if already zero, that could be a glitch someday that a customer could sue us for, so always generate roaming warnings on phone and print in red

Personally, I think it's just that simple.

roaming is free to users....

not free to the service provider....

so.. if you roam to much.. and cost them too much...
they have the right to terminate your contract.

question is... will you be charged an early termination fee?

If your account is terminated by Sprint, not you, then there are no termination fees to be paid by you. Essentially, Sprint is deciding to terminate you because you are either costing them more money than they're making off of you, or you have been deemed incapable of continuing payment for your Sprint service. No fees will be assessed in this situation, simply due to the fact that you did not request termination yourself directly.

I don't know if this helps but I had the same issue before and called Sprint. They just told me to make sure that the roaming option is turned on to Sprint instead of Automatic. They bascially told me that as long as I was on Sprint's roaming I was ok and wouldn't be charged for it whatsoever. Good to know that it's to a certain limit though.

I have 1 week left on my 30 day trial with Sprint and last couple of days at work its been roaming and my email was slow. I have the Evo and love it but worried about the roaming. I live in NY so its only happened certain times.

Is there a way to check online if I am being charged for it?

Thx

I dont think you have to worry. Roaming is included. As others have indicated, there is the posibility of them terminating your contract if your roaming is extensive (more than non roaming, or 300mb, or something). With your 1800kb, you have nothing to worry about.

Wrong on almost all counts. Please read your TOS.

I might be the only one to rant about this.. but coming from a GSM phone that "triangle" over the bars the first thing that would come to mind is what is this?? matter of fact i had to check the online pdf to check what it was.. it's not like I had an "R" to tell me I was roaming.

having said that I've used 128 KB of roaming and I'm just sitting at home and my phone not moving on my desk and it switches between sprint and roaming.. I might have to rethink streaming my music?

I specifically discussed this issue with corporate, and made sure the conversations and assurances were noted on my account, as I brought five lines over from Helio/Virgin Mobile. Two of those lines are roaming 100% of the time. Four months in to a two-year contract and no issues yet. Did I mention 100% roaming for data and voice for those two lines? 600-800mb/mo combined for those lines, anywhere from 1-3gb/mo for the other three. I'm getting what I pay for.

That's fine. But regardless of what corporate told you, you're bound by the TOS. When you activated your phone, you accepted those terms. And your TOS (unless you're not on an Everything plan) says:

No more than 50% of your minutes can be roaming, or Sprint can cut you off. Not 80%
There is NO 5 GB cap on your phone data. Period.

If you're roaming on 2 of 5 phones, then your total roaming is likely below 50%.

I did go over the TOS this morning, and you're correct. But I'll certainly raise hell should this become a problem. I've grown accustomed to being lied to by Sprint.

Yes, if the MAJORITY of your voice or data calls are on a roaming network partner, your account may be terminated. No charge to you, just Sprint will drop you.

Something that isn't mentioned though, I moved from a very strong 3g area to a very weak one. I now have to use wifi at home to get a solid data connection - this isn't counted in my 'data'. So, if I am out downloading in a roaming area, and on wifi at my office and home, that 50% number comes up really fast!

Overall, if you notice a bigger number (over 250,000 kb) then call Sprint and ask about options.

Maybe a dumb question but... I'm always roaming at my house, and often using my phone and data, but I'll be using my wi-fi. That won't count for anything against me, right?

OK, as I'm rereading that, it sounds kind of like a dumb question, because I already know the answer, but just to clarify?

No worries on the wifi - the more you use that, the happier Sprint is. ;)
