Root Roaming Issues, rooted and unrooted...

Hey guys I have had Sprint for a little over 2 weeks now, my girlfriend and I have the $129 plan and we originally bought a htc Evo 4G (her's) and a iPhone 4 (mine). Everything was working great until my iPhone wondered into a roaming issue and I was presented with this message when trying to make a call "Press 1 to make a collect call, Press 2 to purchase a prepaid calling card, Press 411 for free directory assistance."

Well I did not think much of it and my girlfriend has had no issues with her phone roaming or not. I went back to the store and had them verify all of the settings for roaming and update all of the profiles and reprovision my line. This still did not resolve my problem so I got another iPhone to see if that was the problem and it was not, I switched to the Evo because my girlfriend was not having problems and sure enough I got the same problem. I finally had them change my phone number on a hunch and it fixed my issue! Well I had to get yet again another evo because the screen started getting a bunch of dead pixels, swapped the phone and everything seemed ok even while rooted.

This morning I was in a roaming area and tried to make a call and I got the same message and this time I did a profile and prl update and no luck. I did a factory reset and wiped the cache and dalvik cache and still no resolve. I unrooted my phone and restored the stock ROM and tried again still with no luck. I went to the Sprint store and they were not able to do anything but called tech support for me and the refreshed all of the systems and still nothing, had them change my number again because it worked last time but this time it didn't. Tech support said he submitted a trouble ticket to check the network but I doubt anything will be done.

Has anyone else had a similar issue? If so what fixed your problem?

Summary: Unable to make/receive calls or texts, but I can use data and all of the roaming guards are disabled on the phone.

I had issues when I was on my Hero with roaming. I was getting random Verizon wireless roaming errors and messages. I complained and they gave me an airave femtocell. It's a signal booster for the house that runs off of my home internet connection. That solved my problem. I was only having issues at the house.

By chance what radio version do you have? (Baseband)
Have you flashed any radios?
Which line is the primary on the account, yours or hers?

If you have widespread roaming areas around where you live, I'd complain to sprint and ask them to cancel your service with no early termination fees for both phones. Get another carrier that has better service in your area. I'd hate to send someone away from Sprint, but truth be told, I've been with them for close to 10 years and I get treated like a new customer = like s&!t.:(

If their plans weren't so cheap and I didn't loooove my Evo, I'd have left by now.

It's not a widespread issue, the service is actually pretty decent here and I only go roaming out in the boonies :P Her line is the primary. The radios are the latest version from this ROM as I had to unroot my phone "PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.24.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_NV_2.15_release_199233_signed". I am working on re-rooting my phone now. We left Verizon because of the outragous prices we were paying a little over $190 a month for 2 blackberries and not even half of features we now have with Sprint and were saving almost $60 a month. Here is my zip code if you want to look at the service map where I live 27534/27530

Hey I saw the title "unrooting" and I was wondering if I could get some help. I bought an EVO 4G off Craigslist yesterday and the phone had been rooted to a cyenmod or somethin. Now the only way I can active the phone is if i get the mod removed and install the default android mod to get the phone activated, I called customer support and they said i needed a new motherboard but i know theres a way to uninstall fun mod and put the regular mod back on. Is there anyone out there who can walk me through the steps to remove the cynmod and put on the default android mod???

Please email me back @DannyxRuggles@gmail.com :)

Are u in the peoria Illinois area when you have this problem? Im in the chicago area and when I go to peoria I cant even call the other phones on my plan. Sprint claims there is a tower problem there that causes me to roam on a non suported carrier. They dont have a fix but sugested i turn off roaming when in that area. Ofcorse all that does is put me into no service.

I'm in Goldsboro, NC it's not the issue of if I am roaming or not it's that problem that when I do roam I cannot use my phone. :\

Whe you go into your wireless and networks settings go down to mobile network, roaming and put it on automatic, if it isn't there already. That may be an issue.

Yup I have done all of that. On a unrelated note my girlfriends Evo keeps switching between 1x and 3g where I have perfect 3g. Any ideas on that?

Are you both on custom roms?
Stock sense roms will not accurately show data speeds, it always shows 3G. Some other roms will accurately show if you have 1x etc. Also when you use the phone, data gets cut out.
When sending texts and mms messages it will also show 1x. These may be a culprit, or there may be tower issues in your area.

I would try the usual, wipe cache and dalvik cache. Then redownload the Rom, reflash the Rom.
Then if that doesn't work, hulk smash everything in sight! :D

I've never had issues as bad as you're experiencing. I'm sort of at a loss after this. :(
It's probably a network issue in your area.

Thanks for your help you have been great, I re-did both of our ROMs and we are both running the same (see sig). I am going to keep bugging tech support until the do something, I am sure it is just a issue between the network and my phone but tech support can only do so much before it gets escalated to someone that can actually do something.

The 1X-3G issue does make sense so I will tell her, we were with Verizon for so long and the phones always showed 3G even when we were somewhere we knew did not have 3G.

Thanks again!!!!
