Roaming mobile data?

Quick question, again I refer back to my n95.

When I am roaming I was able to keep data on and hence still send mms and recieve mms and photo messages as the phone didn't have lots of apps trying to connect all the time.

Is there any way of doing the same on my note2. I.e keep data on for photo messages sending and recieving ( which are free for me) but not have every app and his dog connecting all the time?

Don't think so. Easiest kludge would be to enable roaming but turn off data then turn it on briefly when you want to send/receive, but even then you'd still get a bit of data traffic from all the other syncing services and that would cost you money.

Depending on how the network/phone handles its access points then disable the data roaming points and keep the MMS one active.

What I mean is, on my HTC One X, it had three AP's... one for Data, one for MMS and one for tethering (I think) and I think any of them could be disabled.

Well on my n95 I had seperate access points but this phone automatically users just one even though 2 are in the settings. The mms ones are part of the one setting.

Any way of teaching messaging just to use a seperate accesd point? Even then I wouldn't be able to just specify one access point to go online would I
