Rogers 911/Sense UI Update: Post your problems here

Dream here.

My problem is with Rogers. I`ve been on the phone for about 1.5hrs in the hopes I`ll get my data turned back on.

The first tech support guy didn`t know how to deal with me, so I`m waiting for the second one. You would think Rogers would have been prepared for an influx of calls since they knew they`d be turning off everyones data. This is not how I wanted to spend my sunday night.

I don`t know how I`ll be able to deal with them for another 3yrs. *cries*

They have definitley lost me as a customer.

Otherwise, no problems with the update yet. It does seem to run a bit faster, but I think that has more to do with the fresh install then the update itself.

They did say it's supposed to come back online within 24 hours, but that's awful to suggest you should wait.

Whenever in doubt, ask to speak to the supervisor. Just mention that you have done the update, but your data is still not active after being shutoff this morning. I don't know what else to say, as I have not had to deal with the CSRs on this issue today.

Minor bug - Magic

It would be great to ALWAYS have the OPTION of using the landscape orientation keyboard for typing. I never remember instances of being locked into portrait typing on the old UI, but I can think of people/contacts forcing you into portrait in Sense UI.

I have called, and I am going to demand it. If they do not I thing we need to get a class action in order, we own the hardware and they are not taking the most logical steps to resolve it.
Is it really that difficult to understand that owning the hardware doesn't give you licence to access their network?

Rogers/FIDO are under no obligation to provide service to your device if you don't meet the hardware & software requirements they set forth. No lawyer would take this case because there isn't a case!

The debates about our "rights" and contracts and who is at fault are already being hammered out in other threads.

Please can we just stick to reports of actual issues cause by the update (not problems dealing with Rogers, or Fido, or installing the update)?

I have made RogersMary aware of this thread and she has passed it on to the group at Rogers. If want to help them to help us by fixing any issues with the update, we need to keep the thread on topic.

For the record again, here is the current list of reported issues:

- Fido customers report their phones now constantly say they are roaming (data I believe)
- Some people report various FCs and spontaneous reboots
- One person says he was unable to delete icons from the home screen (including Rogers icons)... has anyone else encountered this?
- Photo gallery error (some users report only photos in the 100MEDIA folder show in gallery, unlike in previous version which only required photos to be in any sub-folder of the DCIM folder)
- Task manager "end all" causes FCs (unless you exclude on "HTC checkin service")
- Possible problem with MS Exchange (via Twitter)
- Twitter user XBrav is having problems with freezing, buzzing, and calls not completing.
- Flash player not always working
- Battery possibly draining faster for some users, may depend on use.
- Some apps previously available in the marketplace are now not available.

just happened:

my phone didn't ring - but i got a voicemail from my kid. no message of a missed call or anything. :(

so now i've got no Sense UI, and sometimes the phone doesn't ring. (yes, i checked to see if the ringer was on)

lovely.

Thats a Network error not the phone.. used to happen to me all the time before I moved.

Not entirely. The Dream didn't have any dropped calls before the update, at least with mine. Many issues occurred after the new update for me.

I attempted to update my ummm Magic(non-keyboard) it said it was successful but when i try to set up my account is says "you don't have a network connection, so i can't re-setup my account or anything.

how can i call rogers support when i can't get past the account setup?

@patriciav: If you are referring to your google account setup, you can do it over WiFi instead of using your data.

yes, yes i could, if i had a wireless network.

<edit>
yay for neighbours with insecure networks :) looks like it worked.
</edit>

<edit #2> I think the update somehow fried my sim... it won't register on the rogers network... in either of my phones </edit #2>

You might be stuck in one of their rolling blackouts. My data connection was cut off this evening (even AFTER installing the update this morning). It didn't come back after waiting for an hour so I powered down and powered back up. I was able to get 3G then.

it's not just data. i can't send text messages, and it's all "emergency calls only"

So, I did the update on Fri night, and had no issues other than having to re-pair my Bluetooth. Until this morning, when I couldn't access data (except through WiFi), even though I could see the network in settings. After fiddling about for 15 mins or so getting network and sim card errors, I just powered down and restarted the phone. After initially getting the 'emergency calls only' message, everything connected. I've had no problems since then.

I noticed everytime I use a task killer or the android task manager that once i kill everything, it takes me to my contact list, then after i exit that, i go to a HTC screen. Then a loading screen comes up. I then have to go to each page and wait for the weather to load, my messages to load, and my favorite contacts to load. I never had a problem with a task killer with the original O.S. Kind of a pain. Everything else makes Sense(get it).

I'm an idiot. Aparantly there was an extraq sim card laying around on my desk and I somehow put it in my phones instead of mine. Weird thing is. My contcts seem to be on it. I'm really confused but it's working now!

add htc sense and com.htc.provider to the ignore list in taskiller

I got the update working but I had to actually call in to Rogers to get my Data back up and running.

**note: While on hold I noticed they have a "go away" type message for Dream and Magic customers directing them to the Rogers support website.

I wish I could get that far. I'm having issues just syncing my phone the the htc sync. It keeps saying it's disconnected and I get an error message. Tried it on a vista and xp with no luck. I have a rooted phone. Would anyone know if it would be a phone issue or an issue with the sync and is there a way to fix it?

NOTE: The task manager "Kill All" issue has a fix. You must add htc sense and com.htc.provider to the ignore list.

QUESTION: Can people who have updated please report the difference in available RAM & ROM space on your Dreams and Magics now compared to previously? I have seen some reports that there is now a lot less space on the internal memory for installing apps.

Does anyone have any problems with Call Forwarding? I use to have it forward to Google Voice so I know it was working before.

When I get to the call forwarding settings page, it just pops up "Network or SIM card error."

Gonna call Rogers -- for the 5th time -- about this specifically but if anyone else can confirm/deny.
