Help Rogers (Canada) user--need troubleshooting help

I'm compiling a list of my issues because I couldnt find many relevant answers in this section. My 3D is running the latest Canadian OTA update (2.3.4) on Rogers network. Keep in mind, I'm trying to avoid doing a factory reset of course.

Random restarts:
For me, this was more frequent when I was running the software build before the current one. Used to happen every other day whether playing an intensive game or in my pocket. Completely arbitrary. For those of you about to say there is already a thread on this, I know, but I dont have time to go through it and I wanted to know if the ICS update is going to be solving this for us? Strangely, I rarely get the notorious Sense force close like I used to.

BSOD/turning screen on issues:
This is my biggest beef with my phone. One if two things will happen when I go to open up my phone from idle. A) I get the alleged 'black screen of death' where I hit the power button to screen on and I get capacitative lights on and a black screen instead of my lock screen. Strangely, 90% of the time, I can remedy this by sliding the unlock ring (that isnt there) and my screen comes back to life. Anyone else notice this behaviour? B) I hit the power button to screen on and nothing happens and it either restarts or takes a minute to respond.

Screen flicker:
I've noticed this only a handfull of times, but every so often I get flicker as if the phone has been water damaged.I heard this was a battery issue so I pulled it and upon starting it again I still got flicker. Should I just contact HTC for a replacement if that's the case?

Loss of mobile internet
Every so often I lose internet no matter how much I play with toggles. I'm talking zero internet, not just 4G. Only a restart fixes. Kind of lame when I need info in a hurry.

LED does not go away:
Sometimes I'l get an email or something , and after I've checked it, my LED keeps flashing unless I drag down the notification bar. Very weird behaviour.

This is all I can think of right now but these are my main issues. Other than these I absolutely love the phone, it really is incredible tech.
Cheers

its hard to diagnose over the internet.

are you rooted?

how long have these issues been going on? was it before or after removal or installation of apps?

to me, with all of those issues, a factory reset is most likely in order. its no telling what could be causing these issues.

if you use googles servers, all of your apps will be backed up as well as contacts. if you use a sd card, there are apps in the store you can use to back up our phones internal storage contents to.

Sounds like he is not rooted, as he mentioned he is on the latest OTA, it could also be app related, as Marc mentioned, with all those issue it would be hard to diagnose the root of the issues, I also would do a fresh FR and then take it from there. ;)

Thanks for the replies.

I am totally stock and unrooted yes. I do have quite a few apps but most of my problems began before my major app downloading. Also, I have done an FR before with little success.

little success? so there was SOME success then yeah? ;-)

how long ago did you perform the reset? and what issues still cropped up after that reset? did the reset FIX anything and/or did it make some issues go away?

again, the things you mention are hard to diagnose over the internet. i would suggest taking it into a service shop in your area that specializes in HTC and android and see what they find, if anything.

your phone just may need another factory reset. in the end this is going to be your best and arguably only choice, as there is not going to be a magic bullet that will cure each issue.

Actually the reset didn't do anything as I recall. This was many months ago however. I will do another reset now, I just need some advice on how to keep it simple and clean. My SD data (photos and such) will be untouched right? I have most of my apps on my SD so I'm hoping this will save me from having to redownload a lot. As for the rest of my apps, can I just pull them off my Google account after? This is what happened when I was setting up my Xoom, and I was hoping it would be the same deal.

lastly, is there a way to save my scene configuration in Sense somehow so I don't have to manually build it up again?

Any tips would be appreciated, I don't want to spend hours on a reset.

oh, will my firmware remain up to date after the reset?

Yes.

Maybe. If memory serves, these apps that are on the SD card during a factory reset go into some sort of app limbo until the app is reinstalled and moved back to SD card. I could be wrong on this, though, as it's been forever since I kept apps on the SD card. Alternatively, use an app backup program. ES File Explorer will work for your needs and does not require root.

Yes.

Not that I know of without using root.

Yes.

I finished my total reset last night and I've had a couple of hours on the phone now. Up until a minute ago everything seemed to be fine and fixed, but I just got a black screen and an unresponsive screen on press. Im hoping at this point that it remains to be infrequent because I'm not going through another FR and I honestly don't think any apps are causing it. But I could be wrong.

If the problems persist, I will be contacting HTC.

I'll keep you guys posted.

you indeed may have some physical issues with the phone which is why its a good idea to take it into a service center. i would also contact HTC now. that part is free and they can open a trouble ticket with you.
