Roll call....

I plan to just run android on my touchpad. While there are some features I do like in webOS (the ability to easily close an app), none of my school (ecollege) or work websites work at all on webOS. Which is a pain because I use those websites constantly. However, I still do enjoy having my tablet for casual web browsing.

And as others have said, I appreciate the simple updates from you because those rootwiki forums can be quite intimidating.
 
Thanks. I would think Firefox would be ported at some time, but suspect the looming fate of webOS and the porting of GB via CM team, might make that a wasted effort.

Two, maybe three weeks should bring most of the issues to a close. BT only took a day to complete. Not all issues need to be fixed, but would think after the high priority issues are fixed, it could be close. :D
 
Am I the only one on this forum who finds WebOS growing on them and no longer is interested in dumping Android on the TouchPad?
 
There are a number of people that have expressed interest in dual booting, esp since webOS only wastes about 1 or 2 gb.

I haven't found anything interesting in webOS to occupy more than a couple minutes of use tho.

Do I need to reminder you: browser sucks, not much for free apps/games....

I DO find myself trying to swipe up to close an Android app tho. :D

You DO have an Android device you've used recently?

Yes. I actually own a 7" Galaxy Tab that I love. I find myself reaching for the Touchpad over the Tab when I'm at home though.

I think WebOS is a pretty decent platform. If it were getting aggressive development and growth, I would consider it a viable platform to stick with.

Unfortunately, it's not. The browser often fails to render sites properly. Sometimes clearing the cache fixes it, sometimes not. But I only got the tablet last week and have had to clear the cache to fix it 3 times now - that's just not reasonable.

The launching time for new browser windows is too long and you can't have it launch in the background and just continue reading your current page. Plus, with a dual core 1.5 GHz processor and a gig of memory, I regularly get the checkerboard pattern. I don't even get that on my phone.

Also, as was noted in several reviews, occasionally it'll just stop responding for several seconds. That's maddening. This is with all the performance tweaks, logging turned off, and the 1.5 GHz overclock.

On top of that, I feel that both WebOS and iOS are massively under-utilizing the desktop space. iOS doesn't support widgets at all, and with WebOS we only have the one small desktop.

Combine all that with an underwhelming app marketplace and the fact that I've already paid for a lot of Android apps that I'd like to use, and you have no interest for me in continuing using it once Android is available. If Android were never being ported? I'd tolerate it and be okay with a $100 tablet that has some compromises... but since I don't have to tolerate it, I won't.
 
Right.. at MSRP, I would say this is a terrible tablet. It has some funky backlight bleed, the OS is clunky, it's too thick and too heavy to compete with tablets like the iPad 2 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and despite its size and weight we get no SD card slot or HDMI or anything to make up for it. Also, I think the resolution is lame - pixels are too evident and text isn't pleasant to read unless you blow it up a bit. Yes, I think the iPad 2 resolution is lame as well.

At half its MSRP, I'd say pony up a little more for an Asus Transformer or a refurbished Galaxy Tab 10.1.

At $99, it's a steal just for the hardware. But even eBay prices are too high, IMO - you can pick up a refurbished Tab 10.1 on sale for $300, or sale prices on new Transformers have dipped down into the $350 range.
 
I paid extra and got rid my Nook Color to have the fun of seeing progress on the TP.

I figured close to the same price I could get for the NC and larger screen, dual core, working BT.

I would agree with you that at MSRP, it's not even close to being worth it. I paid $149 for mine. For what it does at $149, it's a steal. A cheap Android tablet at that price is not going to be nearly as good.

Maybe it's just what I use it for. I rarely browse the web on my phone, tablet or TouchPad. I just don't like the experience. I don't game so games aren't a concern for me. I don't care for the lack of apps, but don't find that a big enough detriment to make me ditch WebOS for Android.

I read books on the TP. It's got a great Instapaper app. I subscribed to Time on it. I read comic books on it. It works great for all of that.
 
I was lucky to get one of the last Touchpads left in my area. I called 6 or 7 stores before I found a Staples that had one left. Some poor soul wandered into the store as I was being rung up. He had driven almost 40 minutes to get it; I beat him by 10. Gave him the head nod - 'Sorry bro' combo.

App store shortcomings aside, my experience with WebOS is positive. Love the notifications and cards. Easy to root, overclock, install homebrew apps. This is how rooting should be done.

However I use it very little at the moment. My nookColor with CM7 is my preferred tablet at the moment. I plan on dual booting with Android when the build is stable. All in all $149 for the 32gb flavor is an outstanding deal. At worst, I'll end up giving it to a family member who would be more than satisfied with the stock WebOS experience for email, web, chat, some games, etc.
 
I got a 32gb touchpad as a replacement for my original galaxy tab p1000 , the original gsm/wifi version, as it was terrbily laggy and chunky.

I have to say i really like the screen size, and the weight is good too, and i would love to see android run on one which is overclocked nicely, which with some help / guidance i hope to be able to do one day and really see the possibilities and performance of the touchpad as i really like it .

My girlfriend thought tablets were stupid and I had to do a lot of convincing before she'd agree to let me get the TouchPad ... and now she uses it more than I do.

When I first got married, my wife told me, "what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine".

She also tried, "my mother always said it's the husbands job to warm my feet", but I didn't fall for that....
 
Bought my first TP on ebay once I saw that CM7 was ported to it. Had a Pre 2 and LOVED the WebOS interface (crappy apps notwithstanding). But, for daily use (taking notes, web, email, etc) WebOS will be my daily driver until CM9 is released.

I got the 16GB Touchpad. Dual boot Android /WebOs. I am impressed with WebOs, but the lack of apps is annoying. I only boot Android on it these days, as, even though it's an Alpha build, it runs smoothly :)
