Root [ROM 2.1] Bugless Beast V0.3 (2/21/10)

Not b/c of the kernel - I am running 2.1/0.3 stock, after full wipe - absolutely nothing set, except trying to test for WiFi.

Hrm...

Well, I'm gonna try grabbing the tiwlan_drv.ko from Chevy's 2.1 ROM, and seeing if it fixes it or not.

K, let me know. If it does, then I may need to get it as well.

I posted just after you in the 2.1/0.3 thread....

Can anybody tell me why ever since I put on sholes 2.0.5 my phone resets all the time for no reason, it's happening on petes BB also. Any suggestions?

By the way my wifi works perfectly fine with chevy's kernel

It's useless to me because my phone keeps resetting

What frequency are you running your CPU at? The constant rebooting is a sign of instability. Try turning down your frequency to 1GHz, or 800MHz.

@John, replacing the wifi driver w/ Chevy's didn't make a difference. And, I noticed, that even though I can connect to an unencrypted network, I can't really pull data from it.

However, my wireless tether works...albeit a little slower than I remember.

I'll let Pete know, maybe it's a simple fix.

Yeah I have running now at 1GHz, never had this problem until I installed sholes 2.0.5 now no matter what ROM I have, it resets. Would wiping my phone help?

I'm just using WEP and it's fine. Once I downloaded FIOS Remote all I had to do is enter my name and last 4 digits of my phone number and even that worked right away (loaded up both stbs). I just make this comment because it uses wifi to control the STBs...

I only use WIFI at home as well and get about the same 7 Mbps as well (wish it could go higher, I'm on 35/35 fios, but meh...Fast enough)...

I'm running the same as Fabolous, since 1 Ghz is fast enough for me...

Really digging this rom so far!

Oh, BTW, to the user above who mentioned multitouch not working on the browser...I noticed it doesn't seem to work with Google (or Google News), but if you navigate to another page (Androidforums for example), it works...And it works very well!

This is because when you visit a 'mobile' version of a site, it is automatically sized to your browser window, meaning it is already zoomed all the way in.

But if you go to a full site such as androidforums, alldroid, engadget, etc., then you'll be able to pinch-zoom.

This has been true ever since the MT browser was released.

Saw your post, and replied to Pete's reply to your post.

I need to edit it to add a quotation from Pete as someone posted in between.

So it seems some people are getting boot loops when updating to the ChevyNo1 kernel, and some of us are getting WiFi issues.

Time to go back to an older Pete build, methinks....or maybe try out that DroidRom build....

Yes, I am downloading Droidmod 1.0 as I type this.

I'm too tired to try to fix the wifi, and I have some schoolwork to do tonight too :(

It's exciting because for a 2.1 ROM, it was so fast, but, I need to to be fully functional, and seeing how great SholesMod 2.0.6 was, I know Droidmod 1.0 will be too.

I never got into Sholes b/c of the previous configuration that was needed (and with me being a n00b) but I think that I'll explore this now.

As for the DMUpdater, well, I suppose I start with that, right?

Got it going - interestingly enough, the first thing it DL'd was SPRecovery 0.99.3b, which I already have installed...

Might consider if it had wifi... but I really don't need 2.1 at all with the new droidmod released. It has pretty much everything that 2.1 has and is unbelievably stable.

I installed this via update.zip over BB 7.9...though Pete said an Update.zip install over a 2.01 ROM wouldn't work, it seems to have worked just fine. :)

I added Chevy's kernel, that provided overclock and fixed wifi (which didn't work until I added Chevy's kernel)...wifi is working w/my home network (WPA) just fine.

Initial performance seems better than BB 7.9 at the same OC (1ghz).

Quite pleased - first 2.1 ROM I've seen that actually keeps the phone locked when the keyboard is opened, so security is maintained.

Only bad news is no auto-brightness, which is a must-have for me, so I'm hoping Pete will add it soon, or I'm likely back to 7.9.

But this definitely is a very nice ROM from what I've seen so far.

As for app backups, I like to use Titanium Backup. The app is just tremendous - saves your apps and market data, so you don't lose update notifications. You can set auto-updates, have multiple generations of updates, backup free and paid apps, system app,s etc., etc.

Dev updates frequently with new features and functionality...one of my few must-have apps.

So far...and I repeat... so far, this rom is running super. My wifi is working fine but wifi tethering isn't working but thats not a must for me but I would like it to work. I like what I'm seeing. :D

Just a question, running BB 7.5 as of last Tuesday or so, and I'm wondering if it's worth the update to the 2.1/0.3 ROM. I run at 1GHz, and have been pretty happy with it so far. If I do so, is it possible to update, or will I have to run a full Nandroid restore (or if update is possible, am I still better off with the Nandroid?)?

Alternately, is it worth considering DroidRom 1.0 in place of BB? It seems people are liking it as well...

Any input is appreciated!

I believe it's recommended to do a nandroid backup to go from 2.0.1 to 2.1. I did an update from 7.5 to 7.6 and it worked wonderfully. But when I switch to a 2.1 rom, I'm doing a full restore.
