Root rom and restoring a backup question

joto

Lurker
i have some quick questions before i put a rom on my droid x. i hope youll answer if you can. i had a rom experience go bad already and just want to have more info before i go into this.

i have the 2.2 sbf but with the new update its 2.2.1 would i need a new sbf if it goes bad? i see that a sbf was released but it was system only? what does that mean?

i have droid x boostrap and rom manager would it be easier to bootstrap recovery in rom manager?

once i do that does in automatically go into clockwork recovery( i think thats it correct me if im wrong) even if something goes wrong? and i know to make a backup first but when i tried to restore it after my first bad rom experience it wasnt there.

and if i wanted to take the rom off do i just restore the backup and its like it never happened?

and in the instructions it says to wipe data/factory reset. what does that do or delete? and wipe cache also should i do both?

any answers would be great and appreciated and also any info you think i should know before doing this. i hope to have a rom on soon. and if you need to know i was going to put the apex 1.3.0 gingerbread rom.

When you put a new rom on it should tell you how to install it in the thread. I always make a backup in bootstrap recovery, wipe data cache, wipe data, install from sd, then select the rom. Also I just put apex 1.3 on and I had to go back to my stock rom, unroot and put the new update .340 if you don't already have it as apex 1.3 requires it.

thanks for the response. how did you get back to your stock rom? that is just the stock android 2.2 with blur right? is it hard lengthy process and would it work to get me back from that rom or any rom?

Before I flashed any rooms I made a android of it so I just went to backup/restore in recovery and hit restore 2.2ota

just to make sure i get it. restoring a backup puts your phone back to the way it was exactly when you made the backup? thanks in advanced youve been alot of help

Yea if restore a backup it will take you back to exactly how you customized the rom before when you backed it up if that makes sense. It will not however save your data for your apps so you will have to use titanium backup for that.

is stock out of the box considred a rom? then restoring to that will allow me to get a official ota update like 2.3 when it does eventually come out or just b ack to regular if i need to take my phone in?

If you backed it up yes. The other way is sbfing but I can't help you on that because I've never done it myself. Seems pretty simple but there is ppl in the forum that will help you out with that.

yea im familiar with sbf files i had a rom experience go bad last month and had to use that. thats why im asking all these questions. just wanna make sure i got all the info i need guess ill go do this now thanks for all your help

You also want to wipe data cache, wipe data when you go back to your backup.

It's easiest to backup from Rom Manager since you can name your backup to something that makes sense, just don't use spaces.
