Root Rom and slow data

So I am very new to the whole rooting experience and want to try a few roms

I was talking to a friend who has his phone rooted and uses the stock rom. He told me that because of the area we live in (small town, Canada), I would need to find a rom that has the 800 Mhz band for data or my speeds will drop dramatically.

Now my question, how do I know if the rom has the 800Mhz band before I flash? Does this person know what they are talking about?

Thanks in advance

do you have a branded,or unbranded device?

here in the us,its not used on AT&T,wich is the only case i can think of that might screw you up,as they do use different bands for data, and as such att specific phones do not always have the correct radio/antenna(i used an att inspire on tmobile and only got edge data).

t mobile and cin bell use the same frequencies, and i believe all sensations have the same internal parts. if you flash a rom and have no data, you *should* be able to program an APN to make data work, its not really something thats rom specific.

some roms, however,do require the use of certain firmware(mainly ICS roms) so if you want to run an ICS rom, youll need to use the fimrware that it will reccomend in the first post. :)

hope that helps :)

any idea how I would do that. I have been searching all over, to no avail

sorry for the delay,i forgot about this post :o

i would take some speed tests prior to flashing the rom,and after. 4g on most custom roms will show up as H or 3g,so after flashing a new rom definately take some speed tests, dont just go by the lil symbol ;)

speed test is what i use,but there are others.

if you do find much slower data, heres what i would try:

restore a backup where data worked correctly. this may require you to run an RUU,or flash compatible firmware. verify that data, mms, etc.,is all working correctly, then download APN backup and restore from the market, and backup your apns.

restore the correct firmware and backup for the rom with slow data, and then download the apn backup again. use the app to wipe your apns, then restore them. reboot your phone. hopefully that will speed up your data

but again,i dont think youll have to do anything. on my t mobile sensation ive run cm9,a couple other custom roms, and flashed several unbranded/foreign RUUs and i have never had to mess with the above. data has always been just fine for me after flashing.
