Root [ROM] AOSP Wannabe Beta 2 (10/8/10) - Still looking for a name :)

Question, when you do a back up, what all does it back up? Does it back up your screen layout, settings, widget settings and layout on your home screens, etc?

I'm just wondering this before I go ahead and install your ROM! :D

When you do a nandroid from within Clockwork recovery, it takes a snapshot of your entire phone. That means every app and setting and personalization is preserved.

It also means it's about 500mb :)

When it says wipe data/cache, should I mount the system first then wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache? Or is it easier/alright if I install this via ROM Manager and check the box that says Wipe Data and Cache?
 
No no no, don't use ROM manager.

Just do it in the order listed in the instructions.

Format system, data, and cache first.

Then mount /system.

Then install .zip from sdcard.

All of this should be done from within recovery.

EDIT #2: Is the dialer application supposed to be crashing constantly on me? This feels extremely buggy to me. Everything keeps crashing on me. I can't open any applications. I installed exactly how you told me to. I'm reverting to my backup until your next beta.

EDIT #3: I don't know how to restore/it's not working correctly. :(

EDIT #4: Stupid Bootstrap! :p I think it's restoring now!
 
Beta1 and Beta2 run smooth on my phone..You think you can make a one with a black notification bar?...wait I can just get a theme..

Mine was doing the same thing at first, just give it a little time, mine was re-downloading all of my apps. After about 10-15 minutes it was running fine.

Alright. Tomorrow I'll try. I promise! :) I was just scared, and it's late so I got all kinds of anxiety towards it.

Well, all of the ROMs out right now are essentially very similar, as they all stem from the same base and there's only so much of the underlying Blur framework that can be removed.

That being said, this is just another alternative configuration of /system for users to try.

For an advanced user, they can remove bloat and theme their 2.3.15 installation to match any of the ROMs out anyways, this is basically just a shortcut :D

As for scripts, it just makes removing unused apps easier (and a little safer, as there's an easy way to get them right back).

So like you said earlier, this is pretty much like the rest of the roms or themes out there, not a whole lot anyone can do.

But when you adding the stock lockscreen is where you won it for me. I have been looking for that, and it is pretty much perfect for me, so thank you.

Also does anyone know if Launcher Pro can do the screen dots on the bottom of the page like this stock launcher or how ADW does it?

I like launcher pro better for the widgets and how fast the app drawer scrolls, this one is a lot slower for me. I like the look of this dock better than launcher pro though, phone and browser are closer to stock to me, and the application drawer is smaller and nicer to me as well.

If I could get launcher pro to do all of that I would be set with my phone.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't blame you, I couldn't get my phone activated because of it, got wifi working, let all my apps finish downloading and after about the 10-15 minutes of leaving it alone my phone was already activated and no longer kicking me back out of every screen.

Has worked perfect since then, so at least you weren't alone with your problems.

Let me know how it goes for you tomorrow!
 
Long time fan Fabolous, first time on AF.

Had the same problem with the phone going back into Airplane mode and back to service every two to three seconds. I had that problem before with a bad ROM on my buddy's HD. I would love to use this rom, but I had to put it in Airplane mode, install Koush bootstrap and return to my old install. It is weird that it works for some and not others...
 
Hrm, very strange. I'll look into these issues in the morning. I'm pretty beat and I'm battling some flu like symptoms :(

I actually did most of the B2 testing over my B1 installation. I will try a clean install tomorrow, hopefully the dialer FC is a simple fix (I have an idea what may have caused it)

Also, if you have ROM manager installed, please try using the 'Fix Permissions' feature in there. It may also help!


@Wolfedude, you can get those dots in LP by holding down the left and right most dock shortcuts and selecting change shortcut, homescreens.

My first priority is getting to a stable release. Then, I will start updating themes for this ROM.

I've found a bug with voice search. It must not have liked being compressed. It'll be fixed in the next release (hopefully a RC :))
 
Well I really broke something in the second beta, so I'm taking down the link for now.

I'm referring to the issue where it can't stay connected to Verizon.

Should be fixed soon though :)
 
Camcorder does not work for me on this ROM. Just wanted to let you know. Otherwise, its great.

It comes up, but when you hit record, it just goes away. Weird.

Are you using any special effects or at a different resolution? I was just playing around in camcorder, but it records for me :confused:

Thank you so much, that's perfect! Also I did not have any issues with the camcorder either. So his issue might have been isolated.
