[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

Well it was simple but long, LOL they had already replaced my Hero twice before 6 months ago, so I told them I went to the Sprint store and that they looked at my phone and said the speaker simply blew out, and if they had a Hero in stock they would replace it for me, I told account services after all the calls back and forth, that I spent 2 hours at the Sprint store and 4 hours on the phone and if they did not replace my Hero I was going to cancel my line. the last guy I spoke to from account services replace my phone in 5 minutes, I said they could not have done this 4 hours ago, lol

As for the EVO 3D, it will be the craze as when I put my name on the list they had hundreds of name on there and that was a small Sprint store, but now that they replace my Hero I won't be such in a rush, even though I am on the list I may just wait a month and see the feedback, I guess I will have to wait and see, I may change my mind 5 times by then, LOL
 :)

I tried and they replace 6 months ago, and I did not have a warranty plan with them and I have had my Hero since Nov 2009, so I did not want to push any further. ;)

if they replaced twice before, I bet you could have angled that one for an evo 1.

ahh, i see. well... exciting models on the horizon for all of us Hero users. Glad I skipped the Evo, and am going to play a wait and see on this bootloader fiasco related to Photon, SSG2, and yes, even the 3vo (despite HTC saying, nnoooo poblem). :D But if they are all unlockable, all signs point to samsung this go at it.

I am actually #1 on my stores list....I called in the other day...and they only had one other preorder......
Guessing the locals are happy with their Coconuts and String phones....

LOL you answered my question from the other thread, I guess we will see each other on the 3D forum section, yah baby !!!!;)

oops.....back on topic....this ROM ROCKS.....
When I do upgrade - Will put s0be's .35 kernel on the thing.....
no more need for a mic......

Alright received the Hero last night, will activate today, then root it, then restore my Nandroid, bam I will be back in action and the phone should ring again, then I will flash the RUU from Hboot and send them back my old Hero.

WOW! Had a few fits and starts, but I did the Fireat mod and now have 300 MB for apps! WOW! I did run into problems with the market not downloading even though I gave 20mb for cache, but I did the fix and it works fine. I am restoring from Titanium backup and downloading other stuff I didn't bother backing up. But so far this is SWEET!

Update: I've been updating and downloading my apps and now the market is force closing when I try to go to MY APPS. It crashes if I try to download, but I was able to go to my pc and force download everything to my phone. I'll reboot and see what's up.

Yes, I would Nandroid back to your stock rooted Rom, send a few text and make sure you are able to receive them also, also update your profile and PRL at the same time, then Nandroid back to your current Rom and try again, report back

I was on AOSP 0.9.9.2 and stopped receiving texts sometime Sunday I guess. Today I went back to 2.31.651.7 and updated my profile and prl and texts started working again. I then decided that it was a good time to come on over to 2.3.4. But I am back to not getting texts. I followed step by step when I wiped and formatted everything and used the Fireat Mod to increase the app space. I don't have my 2.1 nandroid...that sd card died.

Is there something I can do, short of going back all the way to 2.31.651.7 stock again? I might have better luck this time, but it took me some time to get the phone re-rooted.

Yes I posted in your other thread, flash a sense Rom and simply switch back and forth when you have an issue to update

Since I have resized the cache and system with fireat, is there anything I need to do before flashing a sense rom? Should I follow the instructions for that ROM and format whatever is says? I guess I am wondering when and if to reflash the fireat mods.

Can anyone recommend a simple Sense ROM? Smaller the better!

Yes, follow the Firerats requirements for moving to a new ROM; same applies for Sense.

Nfinite had a basic Sense ROM if I recall correctly. If you are only using it for certain things, like update PRL or for GPS, I would suggest removing anything that can be removed (if it's already not) just to speed up the boot times.

I tried liquid sense and got an error. So I hbooted and recovered to 2.31.651.7. So now I have to reroot, but I can text.

As soon as it booted up and came all the way up it immediately received several texts from today and tests from last night. That was before updating PRL or profile.

What should I do next? Another fresh complete install with wipes, formats, firerats, etc? Or just nandroid my backup I had running last night?

I got it working by flashing back to stock/rerooting/restoring nandroid backup without formatting anything, just clearing cache/davlik and texts work now.

IveI've been having alot of issues with 2.3 lately so I flashed back to aosp 2.2... until Wednesday at least. I'll be back on 2.3 as soon as I power on my Evo 3D. Yep, thought I'd throw that plug in there :)

Nice plug, and you will love it, yah baby!!

this ROM has been problematic for me lately too. Many reboots the other day while at parade... freeze-ups, etc. I downclocked it back down to the 691mhz at parade, thinking 721mhz was making it unstable, though this clock seemed stable in past time in past times. Maybe it was all the pics, video and heat of sun, etc. during festivities. I instinctively wiped DAVLIK and Cache partition. But then I had another problem today just before starting a Runkeeper run when a phone call came in. The ringtone on microSD came in completely choppy and the phone froze on answer screen slider (take call). Pulled battery.

Then, the venerable though far more infrequent GPS problem, that has existed in some form since the first GB nighties for the Hero, which can be annoying.

Still, I'm more or less happy with the speed of this phone now, and like GB perks. Even my buddy with a Moto Droid (1) while eating out remarked on how speedier my antiquated Hero was compared to his device which has been riddled with problems since he got it. And way speedier when compared to my wife's Samsung Moment too.

On the other hand, I REALLY LIKE these new phones coming out! The 3VO is a champ as are the up and comers. In the end however, it's going to be difficult for me to pull the trigger on an upgrade. Frankly, It's the annual $240 ($20/2 line Premium data) increase that is difficult for me to swallow for a feature (4G) I am indifferent to . Then the 2 year contract renewal which allows gives Sprint incentive to renege on my corp discount thereafter, which would then cost me an additional $30 (+ tax) monthly premium in addition to that extra $20 prem data nonsense. Lastly, the up front cost of the $200 3VO or SGS2. It all makes me cringe, haha!

Thank to the community (you guys, XDA guys), I'm more or less happy with my phone, what can I say. :)

EDIT: Scratch that Sprint & HTC. I just read more of the latest on the 3Vo on another thread here, related to the flip flopping on the boot loader and I'm 0% interested now. They're really making it too easy for me to ignore.

Is anyone having issues with the market app? it just stopped working for me the other day. I can still update existing apps but i can not search for apps in the market? I have been running this ROM for about a month.

Thanks

Is the radio updated on this rom? Im at 2.4201.04.23 any need to update?
What carrier are you with?

Rom's do not contain radios. Radios are updated through updates from your carrier. Or you have to flash a new radio from recovery but be very careful flashing a gsm radio will brick for your phone instantly and you will own a paperweight.
