Root [ROM] ApeX 1.2 Series for Droid X - Functionality and Performance (12/7/10)

Fab,

It does not look like the apk file above is attached, is there another place I should get this from?

Also I was trying to run the script to change the gallery and after getting superuser access I would type -gallery and it would come back as -gallery: not found and I would do the same with -email and it would come back as -email: not found.

Just copy the address and place a "www." before it in a browser.

Has anyone had issues with Apex 1.0 occasionally simply ceasing to allow the phone to receive a GPS lock? A reboot typically resolves it but I was wondering if the new kernel/build of ApeX fixes the problem.

I did not experience this using the stock firmware.

Love ApeX, and have no real problems to speak of (besides the occasional kernel panic/soft reset which I had with stock as well), but last night I had to wait for the phone to reboot as I was pulling into an intersection where I needed directions immediately... d'oh!

I have had this happen, as well. It doesn't happen often, though. This had also been the case when I used to have BlackBerry phones and the original Droid with VZW, so I just figured it was their network screwing up. Sometimes it fixes itself in a couple minutes, and sometimes it required a reboot. It happens on cloudy days, sunny days, etc. so I haven't been able to find a trigger for it.

Sorry, just fixed the link.

As for the scripts, I actually meant to use the dashes kinda like bullet points, you don't really need to type them in the console :)

So it would be like:

su
gallery

(read the usage instructions), then something like

gallery -aosp

to change to AOSP gallery, etc, with all the scripts.

It's definitely not a network problem, because the GPS has no correlation to the VZW network.

Of the several times it's happened, it never fixes itself. I can let it sit at "Searching for GPS" for an hour and it won't help, or I can exit the app and go back in, and still get nothing. The only thing that fixes this for me is a reboot.

When I have lost GPS lock, using a program like GPS Status also provides me no GPS data. It's as if the GPS chipset is shut off or can't be accessed by the apps.

Is anyone having issues with the contacts on 1.0.2? I can't edit my contacts. I get kick out to the main screen.

I got this installed this morning (using the 2.3.15 build) along with the Revolution theme, clock removal mod and circle battery icons. The install went fine, as usual, and things are running great so far. Thanks again Fab.

Hey 2.3.15 users, I've gotten reports that the contacts app likes to kick you to the home screen when trying to view contacts. I think this may be similar to the dialer issue from before and just an incompatibility with the 2.2.1 contacts app.

Can you please try downloading the 2.2 version of contacts here:

www.fabdroid.com/images/BlurContacts.apk

placing it on your sdcard, and running the following in terminal emulator:

su
install BlurContacts.apk

and let me know how that turns out? Thanks!

Works great Fab

Good news indeed. Keep the bug reports coming, and hopefully when I get off work, I can package together another 2.3.15 build with all of them squashed :)

I have had this problem on the stock ROM twice. I doubt its ROM related, its as if the GPS locator looses its timing with the satellites. maybe a data wipe issue?

eitherway, I also find reboot is the only answer and last time I just pulled the battery. BTW I use JustGPS for looking ate basic GPS info as a comparison.

I decided to bite the bullet and install 2.3.320 plus ApeX 1.2. So far, so good. No issues yet and the new animations are pretty cool. I'll check the bluetooth later when I get in the car and see if it will read SMS messages for me.

Not sure about tranq toolbox but don't think so since its for another rom but I believe this will help for the transitions
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/226604-how-mod-custom-transition-animations.html

This worked perfectly!! Thanks for finding that gmenfan83!! I was able to get Fab's animation mix on top of my TranQ 3.5 install (and of course keep that toolbox).

Now if I could just get my hands on Fab's rEVOlution theme with the circle battery mod, built for TranQ 3.5 I'd be in Droid Heaven!! :D

Anyone on 2.3.15 having issues with the email app? Got a report that it just goes straight to the home screen.

EDIT: nvm, user error :p

Keep the bug reports comin'!

Glad I got the day off today! I'm going to SBF and install this now. I've loved ApeX from the beginning and I just want to get a fresh start before doing the new install.

Thanks Fab for still supporting OTA!

whoaoaoao, I think your download must have been corrupted. Is the file 107MB?

There is definitely an xbin folder, so chmod'ing it should not give an error!

Lemme generate an md5 real quick..

EDIT: here's the md5 checksum

Additionally, if you're still connected to your PC via USB in recovery (that is, you entered recovery with it connected to usb), you can still mount your sdcard and copy a correct file over, no need to sbf.

I'll redownload and try again. That likely is the issue b/c the first time i downloaded it, it came to a pause and then i stopped and restarted it and the final d/l was 106mb

Didn't know that good to know.

Noob question, but what would I do with the checksum?

Noob question, but what would I do with the checksum?

You can check the file you downloaded and make sure that the md5 matches the one I gave. That means the file isn't corrupt. Depending on your OS, it varies how to do this. There are probably plenty of GUI apps for Windows, but I don't know of any off the top of my head.

If you're in Linux (like when I generated mine), it's really easy, just in Terminal:

md5sum filename

So... where does one get this leak of 2.3.320..? I want to install it over that.

I want to SBF back to 2.2 then install 2.3.320 and then install this. Can anyone PM me to help with that?
