Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

Too old man. Don't think that will work either.

Huh??? There's like 9 different choices in that thread, and yes, they should work just fine. I think I used one for a while till my balls dropped and I went for full on ROMs and Themes. What the heck do you want exactly?:p

Those of you who have this brightness glitch, what happens if you quickly lock and unlock the phone again, does it go away? This may be the workaround for now.

Also, Trooper, if you only want the black bar, just use either the REVO or NexTheme file, but before you flash it, go into it with 7zip or comparable tool and in /system, delete all the folders not named framework ;)

check my post above, troop.

Will do!

Yeah but that was before the Droid X update to the OTA Froyo right? I guess ultimately, I'm looking for Tom's blackbarmod, with the circle battery theme.

What exactly is this brightness glitch? (Guess I need to scroll back here).

Fab thanks for the heads up. I may end up doing that if I am unable to get the look that I want. Thanks for your advice. :)

The thread was started before the OTA, but they've updated the bars to work as far as I know. They worked for me.

Tell you what, PM me the links to the bar you want, and the circle battery style you want and I'll see if I can build it for ya.

Done and thank you!

A few notes on what has been talked about lately.

I have no problem with my brightness. I have it set at 24% and I can switch it to full and it gets a lot brighter, and minimum and it is a little dimmer. I never use the auto brightness, but my settings hold correctly.

On the auto killer, I had one on my phone. I have taken it off about 2 days ago and have not noticed any difference one way or the other.

I do get a soft reboot on my phone about every 24 to 36 hours. I have never had more than one a day. This was the reason I took the auto killer off to see that was causing the daily soft reboot. I have only had one since that, but that is normal for what I have been seeing.

I was on the last RC version and replaced it with V1.0 and did not do a complete wipe, so that could be the issue for the reboot.

I will play with this for a bit, but it seems more random than this. For instance, I reset my Brightness to 25 and played a bit of snesoid. Brightness held. I received a phone call while playing. After hanging up, I noticed that the brightness had again jumped up. Locking and unlocking after a time can generally also cause the glitch to happen, but an immediate lock and unlock does not trigger it. Perhaps its a time related event? Some program or script running every x minutes that could be causing this?

I came from a full 2.2 sbf, wiped data/cache, rooted, installed apex, wiped data/cache again, installed neXTheme, wiped data/cacherestored apps with titanium backup (just apps, no data)

How's the battery life for everyone using this ROM? I only had my DX for a week before installing this, so I don't have much to base it on.

After charging the phone overnight, within about an hour of being unplugged and not touching the phone, the battery is already down 10%.

Is that normal?

I'm coming from a BlackBerry Storm where the battery would last at least two days with light usage.

Its pretty decent but not great. My phone usage varies so its hard for me to say. But for some reason, on most days, my X drops down to about 90% rather quickly. But, it still varies though. Some days it can drop down within an hour like yours, some days it make take 4 hours to drop.

Overall though, the battery life is decent, but I don't think you will get two days out of it though. Unless of course you have super light usage.

I have noticed both the first and last 10% of the battery seem to go very quickly.

Thanks for the follow-up! That's hope! I'll keep an eye on it.

If it helps, I've noticed the same brightness glitch after switching to Rubix 1.6. Apparently its listed on the glitch list for that ROM. Perhaps the fact that its showing up on both indicates that it's related to a common modification between the two?

Thanks to everyone on here for all your input. I had some issues and found all the answers here. Got everything I wanted and I feel that I've now learned a lot about Android along the way. Thanks again to everyone who helped me love a lazy Saturday of droiding!

So.... After using it for almost a month or however long it's been out, I've run the Quadrant and my score is 938 even on a restart. That's just pitiful. I don't know what's causing it, but I think I'm going to be removing ApeX completely and using a different ROM. :(

Beer funds sent. Thanks for your hard work, Fab! Any chance of a green or blue incremental circle battery in the next release?

Wow, not sure what is going on with your X, but just ran mine, and have not restarted since yesterday afternoon and my Quadrant score is 1696.

Something is wrong there for sure. I haven't seen a score that low anywhere in this thread.

Try running the test a few times shamrock. I get a really low score like that(especially coming out of a reboot) from time to time, but after a few runs it climbs back into the 1700 to 1800 range

If someone wanted to use the default mobile hotspot feature, how would it be able to put back in?

Download the removed apps archive in the 2nd post, extract Mynet.apk and put in on your sdcard (not in any folders)

Then, in the terminal emulator, type:

su (enter)
install Mynet.apk (enter)

This process works with any of the apps in the removed apps archive, just switch out the apk name

I tried this ROM...it was a little too buggy for me to continue using it...I guess it was little faster than my stock blur setup, but not so much faster that I could deal with two resets in one day (one while I was in the middle of writing an important email) and the screen brightness flickering. I'm new to the custom ROM thing so maybe this is one of the best as people say, but I'm happier so far with stock blur and the REVOlution theme, which kicks ass.
